my 2 door chopped build thread...

patch panels are in place to hold up the rear hatch. i'm going to have a really fun time trying to make the body lines meet and look semi decent

hatchpatchpiece.jpg

here's the front view of the cage so far. later on i'll be adding a spreader at the bottom of the windshield, i just need to get some tube adapters first

cagefront.jpg

thanks for the props on the cage, i'll pass them to my buddy and his boss. they are bending it all up for me, and it's really coming together. i can't wait to get this guy back on the road

Stand offs work. I've seen people use the same thing you did and take a piece of .125 2" angle and weld it to the outside bottom edge for protection on that corner. Seems to work.

that's not a bad idea either, that would probably be easier than cutting a plate. we'll see how it holds up on the trails. i'm kind of hoping this guy will be under 4500 loaded. time will tell

got some more work done today. cage is almost done, maybe 2 or 3 more days of working on it. the rear hatch is all fitted and ready for bondo. here's some pics of everything. sorry they suck but my phone isn't the best camera

final fit up of hatch

hatchfinalfitup.jpg

final patch. i sanded everything smooth after it was all tacked in

hatchfinalpatch.jpg

this is how it is all lined up and set in place. plus you can see some of the top of the cage

here's a top view of the cage with the bars to protect my noggin. there will be gussets on all four corners of the cage surrounding the roof

Also looks like it would be next to impossible to replace the windshield the way the exo overlaps it... could just be the angle though.

Looks like fun :D

lowrange, i was thinking that today, in retrospect i should've done that before hand. but i can still get to everywhere i need to to fill in the gaps and smooth it all out. the corners will be difficult

grimm, it's just the shitty angle of the pic. there is plenty of room to remove the windshield. the side bars are close but not on the same plane as the windshield and the top bar is above it enough to remove it.

got some more done on the jeep today.

rear spreader was installed, and cut for flanges. and the bed rails were trimmed and welded in.

bedrailfinalfit.jpg

just mocked up the tail lights to get an idea of what needs trimmed and how it looks

taillightmockup.jpg

two more bars, some flanges and gussets, and it'll be ready to get back to my house for some body work. i'm getting pretty stoked about how close it is to being done, well the body and cage anyway.

so the cage is done for the time being. i need to get some removable tube inserts to do the front spreader bar. the gussets are all done for the roof, just have to install them. but all bars are fully welded.

on to the body work, and getting my tail light sections to work with the body.

a little bondo and some harnesses and it'll be ready for inspection.

there is still a done of stuff left to do, but it sure does feel good being this close to done!

hahaha. well i still have a to get a few things and fix a few misc things. like brake lines. but yeah hopefully in a few weekds it'll be ready. but it will more than likely be a month.

i still need to figure out some place to mount my license plate. i think i may get those tube bumper plate clamps and just do that for the time being

Pah... license plates are stamped steel right? Weld that bitch to the bumper and call it good :)

So far yours is one of my favorite chopped rigs - Nice lines, execution, etc. Props good sir.

thanks guys. i really appreciate the kind words. it was waaaay more work than i thought it would be. but i'm hoping the bondo will smooth things out some more.

hahaha. i did think about welding the plate to the bumper. but i think it'll get mounted to the back of the subfloor when that goes in.

so he just got back home today. later tonight i'll start cutting the front inner fenders and plating those guys up. once it warms up a bit i'll do the bondo. it's just really hard to get my garage above 45 if it's not 45 outside

i heart bondo :puke: that shit stank! i'm about 90% done with the bondo. just some more sanding. don't really have any pics because it's hard to see it in a dark garage. i should have the rest of the bondo done tomorrow.

then it's on to the fender flares for the rear.

been kinda lazy these past few weeks, not much time spent in the garage. got a few things done, nothing pic worthy.

i'm in the process of cutting the front inner fenders. hopefully i'll have that finished up this week sometime. then i'll be able to put the front clip back on and cut all that stuff up too.
