MWC Home brew thread

Tried the Irish red last night. seems low on carbonation. i kinda thought it had a sweetness to it, but i am not sure because i have been drinking some IPA's and 3floyds brews lately that may have screwed with my taste buds.(is that possible?) I am gonna be bringing some along to brewfest, if you guys don't mind giving me your professional opinion.

Any suggestions on a "lownmower" beer kit from either northern brewer of Midwest supply's?

For lawnmower beers, I'll pretty much always have either a cream ale or a Kolsch from NB on tap. The American wheat is also a nice light beer.

Have you checked specific gravity on your Irish red? It's possible that the yeast just hasn't worked enough yet.

although not home brew its the thread i decided fit this comment.

i have recently started trying fancy beer when a couple WI folks had me try a few of theirs, so a couple weeks ago while in WI i stopped to grab some cheese and decided to grab a six pack of New Glarus mixed. it has six different flavors and so far not bad. the fat squirrel tasted a lot like it had nut in it which i thought would be cool for a xmas like situation, moon man is so far my fav, spotted cow was ok, right now im trying the dancing man wheat:puke:it taste straight up like im drinking something right out of the farm, and its so carby i can barely get it down and when i finally do im burping it right up. not a fan.

just an opinion, looking forward to the next 3 i got.

FYI, for anyone around the Twin Cities area, looks like my local homebrew club is getting a group cider buy put together. More details when I get them.

If it's like years past, delivery will be at the Teach a Friend to Brew Day, frozen, non-pasteurized and no preservatives.

Well just post up the info when avail or PM me, I need to get another batch going, I'm pretty sure my first batch went to wine (added too much sugar).

No. I can't see shipping frozen cider, even allowing it to thaw in shipping. Figure 8 lbs./gallon, it'd get expensive in a hurry. Besides, you should be able to get fresh cider somewhere in the central Lower Peninsula.

Step by step for what? For making hard cider? I'm not making it, I know Austin does and wants to again, the local homebrewers' club has a cider group buy every fall, I'm just hookin' a bruthah up.

Hard cider really isn't that difficult, no boiling, just start with cider without any preservatives, add yeast, and wait. I've love to make some, but it'd play hell with my blood sugar (and I've only recently gotten that back under control.)

I sent that cider link to my brother in law.

he likes doing that sort of thing.

it also happens that my father in law has a rather large apple orchard out back...

I'm looking forward to making a couple more batches this fall/winter, I bottle in 16oz blue EZ cappers

Me and the lady will usually split one between us after dinner as a desert almost.

I would like to start experimenting with bigger batches and back sweetening, but getting the teaching job has put that on the back burner for now...

you guys see this new buffalo wild wings commercial?

pretty funny!

Yeah, I saw that! Funnay stuff.
