I wasn't paying attention when using my 7" grinder and blasted the front of my XJ with tiny molten pieces of metal. Well needless to say they're now nested in the windshield, hood, and part of my grill. The hood I had plans to build a cowl induction with, so I'll just repaint that when I get around to that, but the windshield I'm worried about. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the metal out/off of the windshield without destroying it?

I have liability only, no reason to have full coverage on it, I'll have to keep my eye out for a new windshield is going to be the end result then huh?

You have insurance right?
Just get it replaced.

i did this too and i too have bits of molten (now rusting) steel in my windows... you really think they'll just come do it? i do have full coverage cuz it's my DD and other than some rust it's in pretty good shape..

Some insurance companies will replace a windshield every few years for next to nothing because it will make the vehicle safer. The logic is that if you can see the road better you can see other cars, the road, people and other things you shouldn't hit with the vehicle. Sun glare causes a lot of accidents.

My windshield severely is pitted from sand trucks on snowy roads. I've been meaning to replace mine, and now that the kid is driving it, I had better get on that. I can barely see through it at times.

I pay $85 for my windshields and 2 tubes of cocking. I only order USA glass too none of that crap from mexico.
I think my guys charge $110 installed and they come to you.

But there is no way of getting it out, youll just have to replace the glass.

Yup, alex22 nailed what I was getting at in my first post.
Most (if not all in at least MA that I've heard of) insurances companies replace the windshield free of charge. Other glass you'll need comprehensive, but not for the windshield.

yeah i knew about that, but they won't even think it's fishy if i not only sprayed the front but a few other windows too? :shhh: i suppose it's worth a shot, but i got a new windshield almost a year ago when a rock hit my window... i dunno. maybe i'll wait till winter and claim sand or something. it doesn't bother me, it's just annoying.

You don't have to commit insurance fraud... you could pay for it yourself

How is it fraud or fishy? Let me get this straight... I was in NO WAY suggesting anything against your insurance policies or local laws. However as far as I know, with my coverage I can get the windshield on my truck replaced just because I wanted it done, no questions asked. If your policy doesn't work that way, I was NOT telling or suggesting going around or trying to beat the system.

As you can tell, it rubs me the wrong way when people try to abuse or use the system. ;)

amen! I'll be calling my insurance company today to see if they'll do anything about it, otherwise I'll be junkyard shopping

Great now insurance is going to go up on cherokees because there will be an influx of windshield replacements :)

"hi, statefarm,? I was throwing rocks at my neighbors dog that always comes in my yard to go to the bathroom and youll never belive what happened" just smash it yourself how much higher can premiums get anyway (lol, kidding)

USAA does not roll like that. At least not in the state of florida. Oh well, I guess I can use my savings on no state taxes, plus all that money Obama is going to put in my pocket to pay for a new one in my wifes car. She caught a couple of rocks a few weeks ago.

USAA is the stingiest insurance I've ever come across! I've heard alot of people save alot of money with them however. Just wasn't me. ;)
