Llama Build- Slowly....

crank down all of the mount bolts, both trackbar bolts, and use some loctite. could do blue if you wanted to make it easier to get off. the RE trackbar cross brace helped a ton with mine from coming loose all the time.

he has the hiem joint one I ran a long time ago. the double shear is a big upgrade on its own.

i would tighten my RE1600 hiem one down after ever trail run, some times in the middle of a run too.

i used to have to tighten the double shear all the time on the trail until i got the cross bar. I had a lock nut and lock washer. or as soon as i got on the freeway.

I don't think I'm goin to run it more then a few mOre months til I finish gearing my rear axle in feb or so. Then I'll be swapping a front in that has Kevin's offroad double sheer. Just tired of feeling a shiny every few weeks on the freeway and didn't want to us lock tite if it would be a pain to remove.

Didn't order the shackle relocation brackets after all. Changed my oil last week and previous owner had over torqued the oil plug. Couldn't get it back in so used an oversized plug for now. Got tired of oil leaking so took care of the oil filter adapter and torqued valve cover bolts to spec. Back two were finger tight, oil adapter took about 30 minutes. Also put in new CCV and PCV elbows and hoses since they were cracked and I was getting blowby.

With tax returns I'll be gearing a 8.25 I have laying in the back yard. When I do my axle swaps I'll be tapping the oil pan for a new bolt and get rid of that oversized one. Probably do the rear main and oil pan gasket while I have everything out.

Hope everyone has a great holiday!

My alternator was going out so I decided to throw in a reman unit from autozone. I picked up a 120 amp alt out of a 97 zj with a 4.0. I considered doing the 136 amp but that's more then I'll need in the foreseeable future. Only took a few hours to do the grinding to clear the brackets with limited grinding equipment. Make sure you have plenty of the grinding wheels for a dremel. I had 2 and used a hand file to do the bulk of the work on the aluminum bracket. This let me save one fresh disk for the timing cover.

Battery is charging up in the shed, I'll drop it in a few and see how it runs.

Ya, they're on the to do list. 5-90 s wires are bookmarked for tax returns right next to the nitro gears for my rear.

I wasn't going to do the upgrade at first to the bigger alt. But it was the same price as the replacement that I needed and only cost me a couple hours of time and some dremel wheels. started right up a bit ago and seems to be charging fine.

Brown Santa dropped by today. Should be getting more on Friday in prep for my front axle swap.

Things were going smooth with ordering until I opened my rear diff that's waitin to be regeared. The cross pin bolt stripped out. There was no way that was torqued correctly. So trying to figure out how I can get it out now and if it's a 29 or 27 spline 8.25. Tips? Spare 4.88 geared axle laying around? ;)

Couldn't tell ya. It came off my old rig that was an 89 with a 95 motor. Considering say screw it and keep an eye out on Craigslist for a geared one or upgrade of some sort.

yah, you can get an 8.8 pretty cheap at PNP, and the ruffstuff swap kit is pretty cheap, a ruffstuff cover, and then all you need is the ford 8.8 pinion flange for a 1310 joint or just buy a 1310/1350 conversion joint. maybe new brakes. I bet if you played your cards right, you could be in for 400$ or less total for all of the above.

What really sounds good at the moment is that Isuzu rear end with the 4.90 and air locker. Just need to find out if I can redrill the rotors and shafts or find other 4.5 bolt pattern rotors that fit the calipers and get custom shafts.

or just run that rear end with 6 lug rims and call it done until you get a 6 lug 44 for the front or flip a yota axle . then youll be full six lug.
