Knucklehead's blog

some pics to show that i actually do work on this p.o.s.
i think i have the rear quarter panels cut enough to clear the 42's.
the inner fenders are all gutted out.
i cut out part of the rear cage. (to clear shock mounts)
the lower shock mounts are burned in.
i think i have figured a simple but very strong way to mount the upper ends of the shocks. hopefully i can get them in by the end of the weekend.
then this thing can sit on the wheels instead of jack stands again.
after that i need to finish up the rocker sliders...

Those tires are comically huge. I think you should put a 120V receptacle under your gas flap. Just for fun.

Lovin the gastank raise/flat skid...I would like to do this eventually, but would like to make a false floor with lift-up storage doors in front and on the sides of the tank.

Awesome...cant wait to see it at SierraFest!

What a nice rig. What's the plan for boatsides from the frame to the doorline ? since the doors are cut out so much ? Tube or 2x6 or something ?

i made up a set of 2x6 3/16 wall sliders to replace the rocker sills.
there will be 5 1x2 1/8 wall kicker braces, then i'll probably skin it with some 1/8 or 3/16 sheet steel.
once i finish the rockers i can start on the exo cage. :yelclap:

i finally got the rear strut mounts finished & the struts installed for the last time.
the hoops run through the frame & are welded to the bottom 3/16 frame plate. i also added some 1/8 plate to reinforce the top of the frame.
i had to notch the side of the frame to clear the struts at full extension. everything now clears through the 14" of travel.
setting up the rear struts was w-a-y harder than i thought it was going to be, getting the upper mounts set at the right height, angle, & location to clear everything, then determining how to brace them securely. fun! :banghead:
tomorrow i can get back to working on the rocker replacement sliders.

Looking really good. How much flex from complete compress to full stretch you looking to Get.

As for the mounts the side to side looks good and strong but the forward and rear movements looks like thell move some. Pretty Sure your not going to be jumpinb with her but even with just crawling im Sure there Will be at times those forward and rear pressures being applied. I also go by the moto "when in doubt overload".

Just my two cents

there is no front to back movement with shock mounts on a 4 link. it is not possible. that said, the hoops are 1.5" .120" wall tube. they will not move at all.

Looks real purdy. But it's gonna be hell tryin to pack the campin gear and Jax in the back :D

not a problem as Jax r-e-a-l-l-y does not like the red heep!
he won't ride in it at all. everytime he went with me in it i had to pick him up & put him in the back & he would end up in my lap trying to escape the terror. :shiver:

I think he realizes that thing is going to fold like a taco and he doesn't want to be the meat. :dunno:
