Rosco's truck. The ZF6 case blew up in Nebraska after the accident when his dad went to move the truck. Going to pull it and see what failed. Have a guy locally that has part of the case that is broke. Hopefully we can fix and put back together to sell it for Michelle.

With that said, will have a 2000 F350 ext cab dually 7.3 diesel truck with 240k and 6 nearly brand new tires on it with, rusty doors for sale soon if anyone is interested.

Travis' birthday dinner.

Time to work vent.

The other night shift had a maint guy that sucked so bad they brought him back to days for the last 90days. This meant that I have been working a boat load of ot. Although the money is great I basically missed the entire summer. The few days I was around I was to tired to do much.
My partner put in his 2 weeks a few days ago. I find out that I will be working alone and still expected to work ot for a couple weeks and then the dipshit is coming to work with me after that. At which point I'll be working with this shit and still working ot until they decide to hire someone. This guy is also a know it all type even though he doesn't know shit, so I'm assuming he will consistently be telling me how I should do this that or the other cuz he learned it from the day guys. I will become the lead mechanic but haven't seen a raise yet.

Meanwhile, I still hate working nights and I still hate working 12hr shifts and I still hate working weekends. I have never stopped looking for something else but have come to a potential crossroads. I have an interview with a ford dealer next week. He said he as multiple positions in different departments that he'd like to talk to me about. I went online and they are hiring for service advisor, mechanic, quick lane mechanic, body shop tech, and painter. Choosing any of these paths would be a death sentence to my industrial career, along with making my 25k degree feel like a waste of time and money. It is a day shift type job but still 10hr days. As of right now they would have to throw a pretty large number my way to get me to move.
When I started going to school I told myself I didn't want a factory job. Now all I do is search for what factories are hiring.
Wonder if anyone read it all the 1st time?

I did

I'm working my second 1/2 shift in as many days this week to get up for training at 8 in the morning...

I read it all, maint is usually a pretty tough job, but the pay is usually pretty good as well. getting to day shift would probably help you out a lot......But that takes time.

My advice is to stick w maint because most of the guys out there are nearing retirement and there will be a big void to fill, having the knowledge will allow you to pull down even more later, but it can be a tough job.

I worked in maintenance for years.
I was "first shift"
Some days when we started, the Second shift would just be finishing up and when we went home they would just be starting.
It was ridiculous hours.
Besides the company processes we also built and maintained their houses, boats, weekend houses, etc. Sometimes to a production line because they were short handed.
The hours sucked, the conditions sucked but the pay was outstanding!
My boss bitched me out because I took off a Monday and a Friday to go to my BiL's wedding and while I was gone there was a meltdown.
I miss the money, but not the BS and the hours.
You could always go back to your windmills....

I lasted 2.5 days working in a factory one summer. Shortest job ever.

My dad has worked in a factory his entire life.

Kudos to you that can do it.

mac 'also why I finished my last year of college' gyvr

My dad raised a family working plant maintenance for the power company. My mom worked when she got bored, not because the money was needed. My dad was the one noone ever saw at school/scouts/sports or any of that stuff, but we had a much more comfortable existence than many of my friends whose parents worked production line or service type jobs.

Sam, I read it all and feel your pain to an extent. When I got done with my under graduate degree, I went to work in my degree field and took what I could to get my foot in the door. I was salary and starting straight out of college I was making around 40k, which was big money nearly 20 years ago. They worked me 7 days a week, and a minimum of 16 hour days (which is legal in the agriculture sector to salary employees I found out)...for quick math, I had an average of a 112 hour work week...which equaled making under $7 per hour, and there were periods in the summer we would honestly work 24hours straight at the mill. It was a revolving door of employees bc no one would last and the managers were the biggest piece of shit dick lickers you ever met. I lasted 2 years and was constantly looking for other jobs, even thought about going back to a warehouse job I had in college bc I was making $15/hr there and no weekends. I stuck with it and finally landed my government job. Now I have a pretty good salary, more holidays than I can name, weekends off and a hell of a retirement and benefit package. I guess my ramblings come down to this, if you are passionate about your schooling and degree, stick with it and it will pan out over time. I'm am a moron, and it even worked out for me.

I went to the local tech college for my autos degree, paid every cent. Was a mechanic and while working at the dealership I became the 'trainer' for all the new quick-lane guys and any 'fresh' mechanics. Got me thinking that there had to be more out there so I made the decision to go back to school and become a teacher. Worked full time as well as several side jobs while in school and still have about $30k loan debt. I've taught now for 5 years in 3 different districts (1st district was just getting a teaching job, 2nd was moving back to WI, 3rd was moving back to hometown area). Wisconsin's educational system is changing and I feel sometimes I spend more time with creating paperwork justifying why I'm teaching than actually teaching my students. I'm currently working in a department of 4 and we're all 29-34 years old, been teaching 2-6 years and have industry experience. Lately we've all been tossing around the ideas of heading back to industry because what the system is becoming is not what we went to school for.

Meanwhile my wife graduated with a teaching degree in broad-field history 4 years ago and since she didn't have any minor certs she still hasn't found a teaching job. She has about $45k loan debt. I'm starting to believe we'll never own our own home...

I have a mechanical engineering degree. I no longer use it, but with out it I wouldn't have been given/earned the opportunities I have had. I had a 30k bill for my degree which has paid off big time.

No matter what I like to eat spicy foods then pay for it the next day (ouch right now).

So what you really need to do is eat something spicy then think about what you want your future to be like, then think about it a little more while on the shitter.

I have no sympathy for folks who work and get paid for overtime.

We all make choices in life. Either you continue to work for it and you put up with the bullshit or you leave and put up with some other bullshit.

Just because the grass is greener on the other side of the fence doesn't mean it doesn't have to be mowed.

I read it all. Almost didn't. So your place is hiring huh...

Dealership life sucked.

No grass is always an option too. :D
