With the alloy wheels, it also upgraded to radials. I think my axles are 3500 each.

I'm trying to get 5200lb axles, bigger brakes, and the Jeep isn't my only use for this. My father in law (the guy that lets me borrow the truck) runs a farm, so a 10K trailer would be useful to him for taking his tractor in for service, or for hauling wood. The Pj trailer had 16" radials.

thanks guys. i havent cried this much since i saw the notebook the third time.

anyways, so i double checked everything on the jeep. i hooked the battery up to try and crank it. and the ground strap that goes from the back of the head to the firewall lit up and caught on fire.

soon after i realized that i might have a wiring problem

all the wires are hooked up and everything is tight. im not an expert in wiring but could it be that i dont have a good ground on the wires by the coil on the block? i had to rig up a mouting place for those.

any ideas will help. im too aggrivated to deal with it tonight. also the water pump leaks.

but on the bright side, i did get my badlands and WF eleventy stickers put on.

A 10k trailer won't haul much of a tractor.

I picked up a Load+Trail 10k 18', w/ drive over fenders and full 108" width options, flat deck last summer. IIRC, I paid something like $4,500. It's also fully painted, top and bottom. I've already got something like 5,500 miles with the XJ on it, with zero problems.

5200# axles are not a bad idea for a 16ft trailer...

i have bent my 3500 twice...well once was me, once was someone that borrowed it...

Sounds like a short to power somewhere on the block. Double check all your positive cables running to the starter and fuse block and what not. A wild guess would tell me that your starter is grounded to power somehow. Especially if it didn't light up until you cranked it. So, check the cables and solenoid wiring.

I think I'[ll get 4 working shocks first, then I'll think about anti sway front and rear.
Previsouly my stiff as shit leaf packs controlled the body nicely. now that it's all stupid flexible front and rear it's a little unsettling with the body roll.

Also, someone wanted this Dana 35 Detroit I have. Who was it? I found it on a shelf the other night. It is Dana 35 non-c clip.

That was me Nate. shoot me a PM on it if ya would please. I have a D35 non-c that it may need to go into for future projects.

the starter was never unhooked. also i never cranked it. it did it as soon as i touched the cables to the battery. i didnt have the cables backwards on the battery. tomorrow ill double check the grounds on the block and see if any of the wires got pinched anywhere. if i absolutely cannot figure it out i do have a spare harness and computer out of a 94. or ill take the 360 out of my 72 duster and put in it. i also have a 225 slant6 laying around. either way that P.O.S will be running soon. thanks for the advice

thats what im thinking. thanks

hopefully its something absolutely stupid that i shouldve caught in the first place.

My bet is that you bolted the alt feed to the block instead of the ground wire. It takes a lot of current to melt that braid strap, so it has to be a real good connection somewhere from battery positive to the block.

Don't stick your finger in the coolant.

Well, crud. Found out what was making noise under the hood at WF. Friday night, I could hear a belt squealing, and on Saturday night when I was loading it up, it had changed to a periodic squawk. Looks like I need to replace the harmonic balancer. I can see a slight wobble in it, and I'll bet it's rubbing on the timing case cover.

It's a compact ford diesel. He's a hobbyist farmer with fruit and christmas trees. We're not talking big case or soemthing that's pulling implements. The tractor place comes with a tandem axle light duty trailer and rolls it up there, and charges him $100 to come and pick it up.

Sounds like my gremlins found your gremlins and talked about the engine accessory system.

I did the HB before WF, did the Alt in the campground and now it looks like I'm going to replace all of the idlers, just to be done with it. Then everything except the PS pump that touches the belt will be new.
The autozone installer tool is super handy, I did it in about an hour.

Yes it is. I just kept the one I "rented". I think it was only $10-$12 or so.

Went to the accountant today and "evened up" with the land lord on a farm I rent.....back to being poor again. I guess I will have to keep my day job a bit longer.

Day job and part time all last week...and its starting again this week...got a reception/honeymoon to pay for!...

Also put the F450 up on craigslist again and put it in the photo ad paper in IN, IL, MI, and west OH...lots of reasons, but she isn't making me do it...she's supporting whatever I want to do in terms of a truck that is a bit more affordable/gets better fuel economy...and should allow a trip or two more than just the Badlands...
