Important

My bet is that you bolted the alt feed to the block instead of the ground wire. It takes a lot of current to melt that braid strap, so it has to be a real good connection somewhere from battery positive to the block.

you are good. that was exactly what i did.:doh::doh::doh::doh:
i havent felt that stupid since the time i sunk my jeep at badlands

it cranks and all is good now. except for the water pump. somebody before me welded a stud for the bottom hole on the waterpump and it broke off. i didnt get a chance to fix it tonight because i had to come back to school. next weekend ill figure something out. thanks guys for the help

Got to use my tow hooks and recovery strap tonight. Friends wife got stuck in the mud on the truck path at church (well, the ground next to the path since the gate was closed). Funny thing is that his 2wd Mazda truck went through it fine and then his wifes Grand Cherokee got stuck (my thinking is that she didn't keep up the revs and momentum).

Ended up wrapping the strap around some metal in the front bumper and lightly pulling and it came right out. It didn't have any recovery points....whhy Jeep why.

And that sir is why we gave you such a hard time about getting proper towpoints! :D

Also the reason I never wheeled it besides playing around in the quarry before I got something. Now that I have wheeled it, I need to get a rear point.

I have taken that path before, but it was more solid ground or snow covered. It is a quiker way out then the actually exit most of the time. Even the worship pastor usually goes out that way. During big events they actually use it as an exit because trying to get 1400 people out of one exit doesn't work really good and it won't hurt the wheeling community doing what she did because she doesn't even wheel.

I think there worried about the pic cause it looks illegal, it looks like your going around a locked gate to a farm to do some muddin. sometimes the landclosingsob's flip through websites like this one and find pics like that with out looking at the text at all and write there own story about the pic. its :bs: but it happens

not sure they caught the part about it being at church...

I caught the church part...doesn't make it right if its wrong... :dunno:

haven't done that particular one but have done similarly dumb things. As an electrical engineer who has spent way too much time in an engine bay with a 4.0, it was a pretty logical conclusion...

Blows about the welded stud, what the hell were they thinking? Any chance you can drill it out and helicoil the hole?

Max-Bilt has caught the XJ bug, look forward to some fun new items in the near future!

On a personal note, got the windshield replaced today... Also broke the welded nut on the pass front spring eye so picked up two new bolts and nuts today, new suspension will get done one of these days...
