So with the trade of the F350 and the trailer for the RV I'm without a truck. Most of the time, this is really a non-issue. However there are times that I could use a truck, I do have a 5x8 single axle pos trailer that I can hook up to one of the Jeeps to use as a truck bed from time to time. The problem is that I don't have anything really to tow my trailer with beside the RV. I can use the 5.9, but if it were a trip without the RV and I took the 5.9 and the trailer with the LJ, that would leave her nothing to drive if she didn't come...it unlikely she'll ever run errands in the RV.
It would also be nice to have a truck to jump into and pull the trailer to go pick up the next xj/zj/whatever vehicle to buy and fix up and flip too. They all aren't always going to run.
So, since I have a pending sale with money down on whitey, I've been browsing trucks. I don't need a diesel, and with almost $1 a gallon difference and all the maintenance, I don't really want one. Realistically, I'm looking at putting 5k a year on a truck...at the most and the biggest load would be the LJ and trailer, about 7k.
I've found several nice 2wd F250 ext cabs out there (almost all under 200k miles in my price range). 95-97 body style. I like that style truck and they are livable. Not sure I can see myself in a 2wd, but outside of this winter, its usually manageable around here. Also can't decide if the 351 or the 460 is a better deal (power vs stopping at the gas station). The 2wds seem to have less rust too. Most of the 4x4s are rust buckets. The late 90s/early 00s F150s all have over 200k in my price range, which is what got me searching f250s...
Here's a pic of the style I'm considering for the F250s.
