Important

Mac...I'm sort of in the same boat. I want to get a cheap truck and a decent trailer for moving jeeps...and it would be nice to have something that could haul an enclosed trailer full of goose decoys when needed...out here there are a bunch of 01-05 gm/Chevy 2500 trucks for cheap. I know you're a ford guy, but if I can find one with a 6.0 and 4x4 that's in my price ranger after Saturday (closing day for our house) then it will come home with me. I'm even considering trading the mj partially on one. It would be a lot more useful to me right now.

Not a chevy guy at all.

I did consider hobag's burban...but I really want a truck bed for the "i don't care" aspect of hauling...

no more than you would really use it, I am sure either route would be fine...just figure it cost you @ $1500/ yr to drive it minus oil changes etc. 5000 miles per yr / @10 mpg x @ $3/gal = $1500 Comapre that to a diesel at $100 oil changes, high upkeep etc. you are still $ ahead......which I am sure you are well aware of. Dad always said that the 460's could pull anything....as long as there were gas stations along the way!

I would consider a 7.3 of that era, but most of them have been beat to crap or have 300k+ or both...and not many still under 5k...

There is a 7.3 excursion on CL locally for 6k...430k miles :wow:

I think a 150-180k gas motor will last as long as I own it...I hope.

Re: Re: Important

when I change oil, I do filters across the board and put Lucas in as well. always $100 plus.

Ahh. I buy whatever is on sale and run it like 5k. I think that's the recommended interval. Right now it has rotella 10w30 in it.
In only put like 15k a year on my DD iirc, so I'll be spending like 200 a year on oil changes. 3 gal of oil and a Napa filter for a 7.3 powerjoke.

I don't feel a need to justify my purchases, if I want something and have the money I will buy it.
My truck may not have been the best financial decision, but I still like it and will live with that. lol
And once I get to Iowa I will start driving Jeds truck and wasting HIS fuel instead of mine. :D

By the time that I was buying the ford oil at autozone and a ford oil filter it cost me $80 to do an oil change on my fords.

Add the two fuel filters for another $50-$70...

I like the first one...at 200k the plugs should've popped out of the cylinders and been fixed by now.

94 is a bit too rusty.

third is 2wd, but nice and lower miles.

This is one about an hour away from me that I am thinking about going to look at:

We drive the bag off everything we own. Most everything we own is looked at as a "work vehicle" so we keep them as such. Hell, I just bought the Denali less than 3 months ago, we have already put over 6,000 miles on it! Properly maintained milage does not scare me. We have a 99 PSD that has over 300K on it and only had one set of glow plugs put in it ever....but about 7 transmissions (long story). Now I think about it, all of our farm fleet have over 200K on them. About time to start shopping for another replacement for something. I am going to start daily driving the C10 this summer, so that will be my new low milage rig

Jeds white truck has like 180k(?) Something under 200. Red truck is over 300k. Stock 96 and 97 powerjokes. EXPENSIVE oil changed like 1-2x a year I think and trans fluid drain/refill once a year. He uses hytran. Lol

Since I'm going to be working about 50ft from "home" I won't be driving a whole lot unless it's to pick up/deliver parts or a personal trip somewhere.
I drive white truck during harvest since it has the fuel tank, air compressor, etc in it.

these were the first two that popped up similar to what i've been looking at....i have been looking at a few ford f250's and a few mid-late 90's ram 2500's with the cummins. that would be the only diesel i would consider right now. i have seen a few for v10's moving for cheap out here, but i just don't know enough about that motor...

like i said, that won't be for at least 2-3 months, but more like 6-8 if i'm being realistic

Well now, I just went and did something silly. :D

how much did the zip locker set you back? thats going to be what i get for the d30. i got talked into 4.56 gears over 4.10s too.

$689

Two trucks ago, I had the 460. Daily driving that is the reason the I bought the one with the 302. But the 302 just didn't have enough oompphh to it when it was loaded or towing the trailer with the Jeep on it.

I've been really pleasantly surprised with the 5.4l. the mileage is no worse than the 302, even when towing and power to spare. That's dragging around the 7k lbs. Expedition body.

Everything I own is a work vehicle... I do over 3500 miles a month these days.

Get a 350, the d50 setup sucks.

I found a new yard near me that is chock full of superduties with super60s (probably metric pattern) and crummy dodge front 60s. If you want parts for a swap let me know.

I probably had my hands on a dozen front 60s saturday. I pulled the spindle off a dodge front 60 because I need it for one of my projects, the rest I just looked at and passed on. Got enough for my projects and tired of trying to sell shit to the flakes in my area... aint worth my time and sweat. If you guys want, though, I can post a list of exactly what the yard(s) near me have in stock next Monday or Saturday after that, and grab any of them.

No idea when I'll be out that way next, I'm skipping WF this year again because a friend (ironically from Minnesota) is in town and I'm not missing her visit, but I could probably get a pile of 60s to altrocker if he's heading out to Iowa sometime.

This sounds good. Gives me time to build up some money for one.
I think I need a 60 out of an 84-86 "slantnose" Ford truck.
