Important

Man if that were only set up for a WJ...

I believe the WJ is the best stroker application for an otherwise stock Jeep. Those things need the power of the V8 with the reliability of the 4.0. They just don't want to get out of their own way in comparison to XJs.

This logic will not keep me from ever putting a stroker in an XJ.

Speaking of chrysler v8's, got in my dads 01 Ram the other day and noticed it was 7k over due for an oil change. I imagine the oil filter location is better then the inline six so I am going to change it next week. Luckily it is the higher stance Ram even though it is only 2wd. Sure hope he plans to keep the oil changed better in his 13 Corolla. That 318 does have a nice sound though out of straight pipes.

Guess not doing oil changes is something my dad and mom have in common, except my dad has no reason not to do it, he has the money to have it done.

5.9 ZJ FTW :D
With the 231 Mac mod!

It is ridiculous to not do oil changes. The choice is simple. It doesn't take much to save up the cash to go to a quick lube and get it done for $25... I mean, even a dollar/week saved can net you the money to change your oil every 6 months.

Don't be surprised if it comes out sludgy, dirty or almost none comes out at all...

I don't care what car manufacturers recommend, I still change my oil religiously at 2,500-3000 no matter what vehicle it is (excluding diesels). I haven't bought into the '7,500-9,000 miles' cause even though the oil has 'improved', the filters are still pretty much the same.

<chuckle> About $25 oil changes.... I spend about $70 just on oil for the CTD, full synthetic 5w40. I also refuse to skimp on filters, an $10 filter over a $6 filter is cheap compared to a $6,000 long block when the filter comes apart and blocks internal oil passages.

Dan, I've got a couple of 4.0l engines in storage back in MI. I'd consider letting one go, but it came out of a YJ with a slight tick that I never chased down. It'd probably be a good idea to throw in a new set of bearings at least before putting it in. It's been sitting on a pallet for..... geez, 7 years.

Uh.... maybe. That doesn't hold for all. I do know that on the Cummins 2nd Gen 24v engines that it's a really good idea to only run the OEM filters. The cheap filters can come apart and blow filter media down the oil passages. Right after their introduction, a TSB came out advising that any oiling related engine failures under warranty will be denied if an aftermarket oil filter had ever been used.

I completely agree, if more cars had top loading filters that you could change easily, you could pull the filter and just replace it every 3,000 miles. But once I have to crawl under the car to do it, I might as well just change the oil as well. Most of us would probably go ahead and change the oil anyway, because it's what, $25? There's a lot of expenses I'll eliminate from my life before I start putting off oil changes.

And of course crappy (cheap?) oil changed frequently is way better than quality oil changed rarely.

I won't argue that cause A)you're talking about a diesel, and I said excluding diesels. B) That's exactly my point, nothing has really been done with oil filters, if anything they're made cheaper than in the past, ergo my statement, in my mind at least, still holds truth. Which is why I still perform them at 2,500-3,000 instead of 5l, 7.5k, 9k like some of the manufacturers are recommending...

I change my Camry oil every 7500. Full synthetic oil with a good filter. The oil comes out more yellow and better looking than my jeep does changing it at 5000 miles.

It's not about better oil or good filters. It's about better, cleaner engines. The 3000 mi oil change was invented at a time when carberated engines with no EGR systems contaminated the oil in a very short time. The contaminated oil would break down and not fully protect the motor. It never had anything to do with how great an oil filter is.

I agree with this, but the way dealerships/manufacturers portray oil changes makes people think they are able to go longer because the oil/filter are better. One of the reasons I didn't like working at the stealership was all of the 'false' advertising that goes on makes me sick.

I go about 3-4k on my Jeep, just depends on what money situation is like and what I remember I did the oil change at. I will be doing my Jeep in two weeks. I can't remember if it was 187k, 188k, or later. I am at 191k so I will do it then. I even told my dad a few months ago it needed done. I did do my moms and told her to change it again real soon, after about a month, she finally did it. Once, I did go 9k without changing the oil in my Jeep, but I was in a much worse financial shape then.
