Anyone looking for a trailer? A friend of mine is selling his military trailer for $750 with three brand new tires.

Got everything but the front axle out of the parts jeep tonight. Real men use 5 ton cranes to pull a drivetrain!

shrug :)

Why use an overhead crane when you can use a jeep mounted hoist you can drive around the woods/yard?

:farmer: :gee:

I did a 4.0 swap on my red 98 XJ with this setup and it was cake. Hoisted the old motor out of the jeep on one side of the yard, drove across the yard, dropped it by the scrap pile, drove up the dirt hill to the road, hoisted up the new motor, backed down the hill, turned around, drove over to the jeep, and dropped it in... low range meant I didn't even really have an issue getting it perfectly lined up with the jeep. Dropped it straight down in on the load leveling bar and it went in easier than with an engine crane on a flat cement floor.

Now that I have a winch on the jeep it should be even easier. I got a few pulleys to put in tandem and get a 5-fold reduction block and tackle, which should let me pick stuff up and put it down REALLY SLOWLY without even getting out of the cab.

The complete setup cost me well under $200 to build. Some 1/4 plate to make tabs with, two 10' lengths of 2" poop pipe at home depot, a 3-4 foot piece of 2x2 1/4 wall, some 1" grade 8 bolts to link to the bumper (most would want to use 7/8 to fit standard bumpers, but I went with 1" shackles so to fit properly I needed 1" bolts), some 1" cold roll round bar for the hoist hangpoint, a long 27k pound ratchet strap for the stay to the rear bumper, and I think I spent $50 or $80 on the 2 ton HF chainfall hoist.

If you can weld and have a drill press that can run a 1" and/or 7/8" holesaws through 1/4 plate, you can throw this together in quite literally an afternoon. It's easily the best thing I ever built for my jeep.

Can't decide what I want. PBR radials, MTR's or KM2's.

But I know what rims you are going to use...

mac 'in OKC...another 900 miles tomorrow to get home' gyvr

Back to work today, gonna mess with the engine swap AGAIN. I hope to get this damn car out today.

I wanna start a pool on how long Aaron lasts once he hits the Utah border before uhp nails him for no flares.

Nail me all they want my plates say Indiana and Its legal here. :D

You have to follow the laws of the state you are in.
Yes & no. There are laws about that. Supposedly, states do have to recognize licensing or risk losing Federal revenue.

However, I'm pretty sure that this gets tagged as a safety issue, and that opens the door for interpretation.

Plain and simple. Utah highway patrol WILL write you a ticket for no flares and flaps no matter where you reside.

Legal or not they do it all the time. That being said, being from out of state you are much more likely to get a warning than a ticket if you are pleasant and don't come off with an "I hate you copper" attitude.

All the above is true. I spent hours on the phone with the HP in Indiana and even the commercial division as well all over the dispaly of the plates on my pick up. In Missouri where the truck is licensed, insured and registered, the paltes are displayed properly. I was told by an Attica police officer that they were incorrectly displayed and to switch them around from front to back....what he told me was not only wrong, it was illegal. So long story short, there are reciporcating laws that are to be adhered to by other states...but do they all have police that understand that or hide behind their badges when confronted with the facts..you be the judge of that. I know that your attitude goes a long way on how the issue is handled by the ticketing officer. I NOW carry the legal documents from the state of Missouri that state that my plates are correct for the vehicle and the state it is registered in as well as the contacting authoritys names and numbers in case it becomes a problem. A we most know, if confronted with that info, many officers will just ignore it and tell you to show it to the judge.....then there are the good few out there (like Mac) that will actually take the time to listen.

....and I heard the beer alcohol content in Utah is lower than most states, and there's a lot of dry areas too.

This true Ryan?

Beer has a lower alcohol content but not as much as people think. Most states weigh it one way and Utah weighs it another. It ends up only being slightly less than other states. No dry areas that I'm aware of except a couple of towns in Happy Valley. Nothing you'll have to worry about.
