Important

Jeff, you and Deb have been in my thoughts and prayers quite a bit lately. Hope she is ok for now. If I read correctly, Deb is going to Mayo clinic. If so, my mom only goes there, as they are world renowed. Mom has a rare conditon that they diagnosed and treated 40 years ago, and still do. In my eyes, the best place to go. Please keep us posted.

IF you can actually get to see someone at the clinic, you're in good hands. However, just getting an appointment can be a problem. Early in August, I got a referral to see a specialist..... and none of the Clinic's specialist would see me before the middle of OCTOBER. I ended up going outside of the Mayo system.

Best of luck Jeff, I had my eye surgery done up there. 20-100 vision to 20-10 in 24 hours. They have some amazing people up there.

Anyone ever seen the king of the nerds show? Ken, did you change your name and enter the show?

Thoughts and prayers, Jeff... stay positive. I hope the docs figure something out and she pulls through.

Aaron, I have no idea what you are talking about.

thoughts are with ya jeff, hang in there.

'Final' U-bolt plate. Being that the edge of the holes to the edge of the plate where it would normally 'curve upwards' is only 5/8", and I'm using some big washers, I don't think I will try and figure out a way to 'bend' the edges up... Started with 3/8" x 6" x 8"

maybe im missing something Austin, I don't understand why you are concerned about the edges curving up. how is big washers going to so anything.

I believe you are over thinking this.

I very well could be, but everyone else has been giving me grief about not bending the edges up saying that the plates will bend when I bolt them down or when the leafs flex... I figured a thicker, wider plate would prevent this... I'm willing to bolt them on right now if I can get a consensus that they are fine and nothing will happen.

Bending the edges up should help a lot with strength. Prove it to yourself with a flat piece of cardboard, it's pretty floppy. Bend one edge, and try to bend it in the other direction.

Couldn't you have bought a set and been done with this already

:)

I will be curious if it bends without the edges bent up.

mac 'strength in the bend' gyvr

agree, but this is 3/8" plate, much stronger than the factory plate. the reason they bent the edges from the factory is cuz they're too cheap to use 3/8" plate.

I really think he's gonna be fine.

Austin, if you think these are not strong enough, take a piece of scrap and weld it to the plate, then you'll have a 3/4" brace (including your original 3/8)

Took me an hour and a half to get to work today, people freaking out over the 1" of snow. i wanted to drive the jeep but it wouldn't start, tried jumping it but still nothing. at first it seemed the battery was dead but all the lights were bright and the keyless remote still worked. could it be the starter, would a starter crank really slow then give up?

yep. I had to change my starter at wf a couple years ago cuz of this reason. It wouldn't start even jumping from Rev's diesel pick up.
