Couldn't you have bought a set and been done with this already

:)

I will be curious if it bends without the edges bent up.

mac 'strength in the bend' gyvr

I'm getting all my various equipment in my 'fab-lab' up and running after years of neglect/abuse. I want to start fabricating my own parts, so its a learning experience, the Heep isn't my DD anymore so It can sit on the hoist forever and I wouldn't be worried...

Welding is supposed to be stronger than just metal right? So this is my new plan that involves a vertical band saw, crescent wrench, and 4ft of pipe... (Could have bent it further, but you get the idea...)

Took me an hour and a half to get to work today, people freaking out over the 1" of snow. i wanted to drive the jeep but it wouldn't start, tried jumping it but still nothing. at first it seemed the battery was dead but all the lights were bright and the keyless remote still worked. could it be the starter, would a starter crank really slow then give up?
That sounds like my commute on Wednesday, although less than a half inch of snow at 10 degrees. Roads were slicker than I expected, and my 45-50 minute drive took an extra 20+ minutes when I left at 0620. I don't want to think about what it'd have been an hour later.

Only problem I see with that would be getting good penetration all the way down to the root of the cut. Before welding it up, I'd grind the edges to open it, and hit it with a good hot stick welder.

They've never given me trouble, of course 99% of the time I get stuck is because I can't drive!
fixed

Super Swamper TSL's, bias.

That is all.
indeed, daily driven for 2 years. Deathtrap in the ice when they're cold.

It's not a good way to start the day by heading to the ER at 0630. She has had a rather rare, but not unknown reaction to one of the chemo compounds that might have actually been a cardiac event. At the moment, it's unknown what's going to happen, there will be a fair amount of discussion over the next 2 weeks before her next scheduled chemo session. It could be a reduction in that compound, elimination of the compound completely, change to a different compound, or stop chemo completely.

<bleep> <bleepity> <bleep> <bleep> cancer.
It will take a few tries to get it right. They went through a couple for my father in law before they found a formulation that didn't make him sick or have other complications (nerve related mostly, crazy tingling/burning sensations).
I know it sucks, but it seems par for the course on the super strong chemo stuff.

Keep on with it.

I made those plates before...about 13 years ago...when I still had leaf springs.

I can't remember how thick the metal was, but they bent and I had to buy some after market ones anyways.

True..... if it were just the cold sensitivity & peripheral tingling, I think that she'd deal with it. The chest pains were just too much, and the oncologist is in agreement. Lot of discussion to be had next week.

Ohh, It'll be bent further, opening up that cut. I was just testing the process to see how feasible it was... (Note to self, use vice on bench bolted to floor next time... Dam near took out 3 kids when the whole bench moved 4 ft...)

Kids are disposeable. You will get new ones next year ;-)

Seriously though... There's a girl in my robotics class, she was absent 102 times last trimester, and 142 times so far this trimester.... How is she still enrolled?!?!

6 periods a day means she was not here 17 days last tri and 22 days this tri...

I'm running TNT ubolt eliminators. They use a plate that looks almost identical to yours. I'm pretty sure it's 3/8. They are flat. I've had them on since 08 and they aren't bent.

I went with half inch plate and people gave me grief about them maybe bending. No issues yet.

My gut says 3/8 flat may not be thick enough but its been wrong before and I usually just overbuild everything.

Very valid point! Ryan you are the winner! (Sorry no prize)

I do too, however, I had enough issues with 3/8" I wouldn't have been able to dent 1/2"... And as Ryan has pointed out, TnT uses 3/8" with no lip.

I'm bolting them up during my 5th hour Prep period.

One other thing to consider. You are putting a lot more torque on the bolts and therefore the plates when you use an eliminator kit like TNT. If you are just using ubolts I can't see how you would bend it.

All I saw was trimesters and periods. That's a different student/teacher conversation.

:D

so...i kind of accidentally stumbled upon a big adult decision by the last couple of days. its kind of blind sided me, big time. i cant say a lot about it, and its definitely not a bad sort of decision, but i had an offer laid on the table that could be potentially life changing, and it actually wasnt from my interview the other day. it has me split right down the center right now because it would involve moving again...out of the midwest. nothing is remotely in stone on this deal right now, but it would be a big deal in a good way. however, my heart and soul truly lies in the quality of life i have living in iowa. it really has me at a crossroad right now. so much so that i really couldn't sleep last night. i've got a huge decision to make in the next few weeks, and i can shed a little more light on it soon....but until then i sit here in a state of limbo, not sleeping and not quite knowing what im going to do.

Good luck, hopefully it turns out the best for you.

pissed off.

pulled my msr out of the box and the main motor is jacked. how does something go bad sitting in a box for a few months?

salty because I was going flying tomorrow.

of course I could go to the local hobby shop, but that's 40 miles round trip worth of fuel and they want $25 for a part I can buy directly from eflite for $8.

and they wonder why they don't get business. i'd have no problem paying $15, but i eflite is selling it for $8 retail and you mark it up to 25? You out yo damned mind.

Austin - What grade is that hardware?

I've never had u-bolts with lock washers and nuts, always the big nuts that came in the kit. The grade 5 nuts you have on there look small and sketchy.
