i just installed a 2" lift now my steering shakes at 50mph, help?

lol i felt the same way, i'll deal with being out of align until i can afford a track bar...

and if i have to add a 1" coil spacer to use the track bar because i only have a 2" coil lift... then so be it i guess

Or you could search on how to redrill the hole on the axle end over about 1", and up 1/2" to get the front end closer to being in there straight.

Edit: Sweet, finally made it into someones sig. :D

the place i went to get my xj aligned said they wanted to drill over about 3/4" so they could align it... but they wanted my ok first before they did anything. well i wasnt comfortable with messing with the strength of that mount so i opted to not get it aligned and wait for a track bar instead.

yeah, everyone hate's rusty's right? then why did the guys at 4wp's suggest me to go to rusty's for the track bar? they were like if we could carry them they would...

but if i remember correctly, it was their lifts not their LCA/UCA's or trac bars.

You are not serious right now are you? Have fun snapping the TRE.

The main issue on here with Rusty's IS THE DAMN TRACK BAR. Their Armor is beef though

oh and................ NOMINATED! :D

gawd dammit! NO Rusty's Trackbar. If you get one anyway, then don't be surprised when it fails or breaks on the highway. I get angry because its like sticking a loaded gun to your head. You KNOW its not a good idea but people do it anyway and get themselves killed. Not everyone who works at 4WP is smart enough or has enough actual offroad experience to make good recommendations. They just pimp their parts or pull the first product that comes to an empty mind.

Here's my experience:

search for the TJ who rolled his rig completely on the hwy. The rusty's trackbar broke.

I have a rough country track bar i picked up new for $100, it's not the best, and the ends will break often if you don't center the damn thing perfect but it's still cheaper than a RE with the new ends included and now that it's dead on I haven't had an issue yet.I have to say that the guy on here from Rough Country offered to replace the end, no questions asked when it first broke.

im just curious if it's because the TRE was cheap and bent and if i could just replace it with a better TRE or whats the case yanno?

right now im on a budget, i dont work currently so i need a cheap fix and drilling over 3/4 inch is not an option.

skyjacker has their track bar relocation bracket i am going to look into unless you guys have a bad opinion of that as well.

The new Rough country HD track bar is only 129. Its not available for 0-3 inches just yet but Jason told me they are working on it! I have a Rustys sitting in my closet right now and a track bar is all that is stopping me from lifting but i am not about to throw that damn track bar on my Junk!

Why?

You have no money, but dont want to do a free mod? You would rather drop some coin on a cRustys track bar, have it fail, and destroy your jeep?

Good luck pal.

free mod = drill over 3/4" ?? if i can get the track bar relocation bracket for less than 30 bucks, i'd rather do that, but if its going to destroy my xj, then thats not exactly a mod either... but apparently the alignment shop says " oh we drill new locations like this all the time to align the vehicles"... is them drilling a hole 3/4" over going to weaken the track bar mount much?

Yes, drilling over is a free mod IF you have the tools.

And no, you'll be ok until you get a real trackbar.

ok, well its not like i wheel all hardcore, i'd say 75% of my driving is on road, with weekend trail's that arent full of rocks ruts and fun goodies like that. im still an amature wheeler looking for mild fun while keeping my xj looking nice like the ROTM

to sum it up... i dont try and abuse my xj

After having a 2 inch lift for a few years, and expiriencing death wobble with it my bets would be:

-Loose track bar. This could be bad bushings, loose bolts, bad ball joint.
-Bad steering stabilizer. YES, this does matter. This is what was causing mine. believe it or not, without the stabilizer I got DW after every pot hole I hit. Make sure you have one and it's not blown.
-Need alignment. Like everyone else said, when you go up, your toe goes to heck. Use a tap measure or take it to your nearest shop.
-Bad tie rod ends. This might not have anbything to do with the lift, but if one of the ball joints at the ends has play, you're going to feel it. At higher speeds, it only exponentiates.

My bet it on the alignment, or loose track bar. Go under your jeep, make sure everything is tight, check toe, and report back.

Not really, a steering stabilizer can only mask DW, and keep it at bay for a while. If it is blown, it is no longer doing its job, and is not dampening the oscillations. This then allows the DW to show through. But, something else is the root problem. Steering set ups are not designed to give you DW if you don't have a stabilizer on it.

I had a completely blown one, with oil seeping out of it, on both a 4.5" lift, and 6.5" lift. Not once did I experience anything even remotely close to the beginnings of DW.

drilling the stock trackbar mount on the axle is ok as pointed out by CanMan.

Another option is to pick up a used RE HD trackbar like I did for $60. Cheaper than $130 for cRustys. Hell, one time I received a kharma'd JKS adjustable trackbar and only had to buy a new end for it. Keep your eyes peeled in the For Sale sections and any kharma threads. Be patient for the deals and do it right.

Hey MaxxXj

I used the skyjacker bracket it some adjustment so you should be able to us it with the 2in with no issues. I have had it on for 2 + years. When your on a budget you do what works. If you have any questions let me know....

This is what I thought too, but I call shennanigans. When I put on my budget boost, I replaced the steering as well. EVERYTHING. Ball joints, zj tie rod and ends, track bar bushings, drag link, and steering stabilizer. Had an alignment, balanced my tires. The steering stabilizer was the very last thing of that whole sequence to go on, and I had DW until I put it on.

Control arm bushings will also give you DW if worn - once you've replaced everything that you did, I'd look there before the stabilizer, although it can't hurt to have a new one on there.
