Hunters/archers

i frequently hunt state land on the edge of a swamp... a guy owns land with a feeder a couple miles away. so i try to pop them in the evening when they are coming out to feed. i just pack up the bow and leave when i can hear them cackling close by. sometimes i get spooked, deffinantly would feel better if i had a sidearm.

When I first moved out here I dropped damn near 12 in the first year. Now that they no longer have a bounty and the fur is damn near useless I don't even bother. Best way I found to hunt them here is with a rabbit in distress call. They come running especially if it is getting to be dusk out. They are still pretty thick out here.

Whenever I go hunt rabbits with my Beagle, they will purposely set a trap for my dog. One will stand out yipping for him while the others try to sneak around him to surround him. I always shoot them then. They are cunning lil b####rd's.

I now also own chickens so I may start thinning the pack again to keep my losses down. Is it unfair if I know where their den is?

I've shot about 1.25 a year with my bow, I say the .25 cause it hit but couldn't find it, I was hunting last year just a dark and had 6 running around me I was flipping.

Braver in numbers is true with the coyotes. Seen 8 of them chasing down and trying to single out some of my friends bear dogs until the other dogs heard what was going on and then it was interesting.

There are times here where you will not get sight or sound from a coyote. That's when you know the wolf pack is in again. Cannot shoot at them. I have shot into the air to scare them off though. :shhh:

went to our early season duck spot...looks alright. more water than most places, but thats because its attached to the mississippi. saw a lot of ducks though, so that is promising. the cooler weather this week is pushing me hard to get the duck boat ready. won't be too much longer :) friends of mine are already hunting geese in south dakota

Im making the trip 'up north' on the 25th to hang a few stands and see how the woods have changed after last years clear cut. I usually try to do it a little sooner but i have worked every saturday since July 4th..

I did apply for my WI wolf tag today! :)

You guys eat the birds?

i eat everything i shoot...im strongly against not eating what you kill. if you give some away to people because they want it, thats another story. i like eating wild game and i like eating game birds especially.

i am not a trophy hunter as you might guess :)

I have eaten every animal I have killed since adulthood. sparrows with a bb gun as a kid don't count.

Going to give fowl hunting a try this year with my uncle. He has the whole setup, boat and all.

x2 on eating the animal minus coyotes.

Went and bout a box of .22 shells last night. Need to get the .22's sighted up for small game. Squirell stew, yuuuuummmmmmmmmmm.

And in other good news, the wife's dad just purchased a home on a fully wood 20 acres with a nice brook stream running through it. I am going to walk the property this weekend and get a couple tree stands up there. Nobody in her family bow hunts besides me so i've got it all to myself.
