How do we get America back on the path prosperity?

"STOP THE OBAMA TAX HIKES: Congress must reject the Obama tax hikes, and make permanent the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, thereby helping the economy grow and create more jobs."

How has this worked so far? Not that great of a a track record in my opinion. These tax breaks have been in place for nine and seven years respectfully and the economy has still dropped.

98% of Americans make less than $250K anually. The top 2% do not spend money at the independent stores, the small businesses that help local economies.

Will retaining the tax cuts put in place in 2001 & 2003 retain jobs? One could use the arguement that the top 2% make the capital investments in manufacturing, purchasing equipment, etc that 'create' jobs. However have they been loyal to US consumers? or have they moved the jobs overseas?

Raising the $250K to $500K covers 99% of the US population.

Since President Obama has been in office I see that the rail yard in Oakland, CA is again bustling, the freeways are crowded and small resturants & cafes are re-opening. These resturant start-ups are what I see as a bellweather that Americans are again spending money.

Unfortunately we've allowed government to legislate & regulate business to the point of forcing much of competitive industry to go abroad in order to remain profitable,
leaving behind mostly the service-related small business model to drive the economy, and creating our current (& projected) long-term unemployment dilemma.

I'd much rather leave hard-earned profits in the hands of small business owners to invest than allow our growing power hungry government to tax and squander it.
The more money the government takes, the bigger it grows; the bigger government grows, the more money it wastes... it is inevitable, if not unavoidable.

Definitely not scientific research but I'll stand by my earlier observation:

If these observations are not a sign of an economy truning around, than where are the average people getting the $$$ to buy the gas? Where are they going if out of work? How can they have the disposable income to spend on entertainment (eating out)?

The state is bankrupt after eight years of republican leadership. Let's see what the former Jesuit can do.

Glad the fool is your president because he sure as hell does not represent me and will never amount to squat at the rate he is going. Carter 2.0 is a compliment to this buffoon. He can’t manage a simple bank account let alone our monetary system. That said my taxes will be increasing in five weeks and I don't make 250K a year. In addition the bank my wife works at has announced pending layoffs due to the foolish legislation the Whitehouse twinkie and his party have enacted. Add that to an over 40 percent increase in my family’s health care insurance since last spring (hoorah for obummer care), groceries going through the ceiling, a steady increase in energy costs, and I would say that keeping our taxes where they are or cutting them further would be a good idea. Even JFK was intelligent enough to realize that letting people keep their money increased the government coffers. If I can afford to spend more I am likely to do just that. In turn a business stays open and people are employed resulting in more money generated and more folks paying taxes. Tax me more and watch the belt tighten while I try to cover day to day expenses, Economics 101.

As for California if the picture is so rosy than why is the state going in the hole further daily. Nearly every day there is another headline referencing California’s money problems. Last I looked their unemployment was still through the roof. Even my MD brother fled California because of its high taxes, poor economy, and lousy business climate and that was eleven years ago when the democrats were still running the state. The only reason anyone is spending cash is they have no choice but to survive and congress is still handing out unemployment checks like candy.
I flew to Sacramento and then drove to Ventura in September and I did not see the recovery you describe nor the economic activity that was there on my last visits in 2007 and 2008. The neighborhood where my mother in law lives in Citrus Heights was desolate and likewise in Ventura where my brother still owns a duplex. Regarding the exiting guv, the terminator spent like a drunken liberal and I doubt the new boy will be any better....good luck.

Schwartzenegger's a R-I-N-O, but then I don't blame you for trying... It's really all you've got left.

Try taking a look at how Texas is doing without the benefit of a State Income Tax, then report back to us with your "conversion story"... :wantyou:

Here's a good liberal place for you to start:

Things would-have been so much better with McCain and Palin *cough *cough sarcasm.

I love Politics. Party A spends 8 years fukking-up a country, it get's kicked out, and than it spends the following 4 years blaming Party B for the mess. Honestly, I don't blame the parties; most politicians come from legal backgrounds, and everybody knows you can trust a lawyer about as much as you can trust a used car salesman.

No. I blame the voters for having a short-term memory.

Pretty irresponsible of the population using their unemployment checks that should be spent buying food & keeping a roof over their heads buying big screen TVs today at Best Buy. The malls are full. Although there are plenty of irresponsible people I find it hard to believe that the wanton consumerism being displayed today does not equate to a turn around of the economy.

About government waste...I am at work today to unscrew a $7M screw up. Read yesterday's (11/25/10) Dilbert cartoon, I'm living it. Purchasing took a $7M Fed grant and bought parts to fill empty shelves. The shelves were empty because the buses have been retired.

I blame the US Citizens in general, for becoming complacent, sitting on their hands and complaining instead of getting involved, educating themselves and electing people who will uphold the Constitution and truely govern to represent their Will. This was predicted.

"Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature .. If the next centennial does not find us a great nation...it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces." - James Garfield
"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily lives, and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom." John F. Kennedy

"The people of the United States are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." -Abraham Lincoln

Correct Tom.

Think about the rationalization.....the US government promotes the USA as a consumer society and urges it's citizens to to consume more, borrow money that they cannot afford to repay, live in houses that they cannot afford, "for the benefit of the economy". Programs were created and forced upon banking and mortgage institutions under the guise of "helping the under-priveledge" get into a home.......which they could not afford.
How did this experiment in Social Justice work out? Record bankruptcy and forclosures, governmental takeover of banking institutions, private businesses = going deeper into debt as a country (taxpayer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$) to bail out these failed policies.

Looks like a blueprint to collapse our economy and allow governmental control of all aspects of our lives......TYRANNY
