Hey guys,

I just bought a 4.6L Golen Stroker, i was planning on renting an engine hoist and doing the install in my garage, i was just wondering if anyone was in the area wanted to offer some moral support. Im a little intimidated installing this by myself. I would be willing to pay in cash, or beer/both. could even donate the rest of my motor after i swap parts off of it.

If anyones interested just let me know, id greatly appreciate the help

Damn Brendan, I wish I was closer, I've always wanted to be a part of a stroker installation. I've swapped about (5) 4.0 Litres, it's really not a hard job at all, but many hands make light work. If you can't find anyone around there to help, I will make the drive and bring the engine hoist so you wouldn't have to buy one. Keep me posted on here or Facebook man.

i will for sure collin. i gotta place for you to crash too if you did want to make the trip. if not i could put you up in a hotel that i work at on Lake Monroe. ill let you know when i plan on getting to the install.

to be honest ive never really messed with a whole motor before. ive taken the top end off in auto shop class on a demo motor, otherwise thats the extent of my knowledge.

Well if you were closer I'd say bring it up here and use the shop (30x40) engine hoist here and all the tools, even air, engine stands etc. But if you want you could tow it up, start early enough it could be in in a day. I'd let ya stay in overnight but I don't think my dogs would like that, heck I'm lucky they let me in the house! As my GF found out the dogs can open the back door....ooopppssss... If your a camper there are two campgrounds close by.

hmm. you may be in luck. i just happen to live in bedford. im done with college for the semester and im unemployed, so i have some free time. i caould possibly come up next week some night. heres my number, 5833271. my name is steven easton and i am an automechanic major at vincennes. i could possibly help ya. give me a call

I may be down for it brendan. When are you installing it? It at least gives me a little time out of Columbus as long as I have the extra gas! I can't do any heavy lifting be cause of my Muscular Dystrophy but i got a soldering iron and i am very handy with electrical stuff! :D

I have a couch for you to crash on too Collin! I'm about 45 minutes away from him. There is a lot more eye candy over there though so you may want to crash there! :D Brendan PM me when you are planning the swap i want to help since mine will be under going the same thing when i get the money for a stroker!

If you get some dates nailed down, I might just hop in with Collin and come on out and help. I too have had my hands in on some swaps (some of the same ones as Collin :D) , from H.O. to H.O., from Renix to H.O. and so far all of them have not been bad at all. Just takes a bit of time, dont forget the E12 reverse torx and the rest is pretty simple with basic tools and a hoist. let me know

will do guys...i knew i loved NAXJA for a reason haha no where else would there be members willing to drive from Iowa to help put in a motor.

i should be getting a call from chad today about shipping, so i will nail down the dates then and get all the tools gathered up and send out some PM's

thanks guys a TON!!!!!!

If you have never torn an engine apart make sure you bag all of the bolts and label them. I'm really glad I did that. I think I got the motor torn down about a month ago and I just got it back in the jeep this week. If I wouldn't have bagged bolts I would still be looking for bolts. Also get a better manual than a Haynes... they are worthless other than torque specs. It really isn't a bad swap though. Had a bear of a time getting the input shaft lined up.

On the E12 reverse torques in the top of the motor/tranny, I took the motor mounts and brackets off and lowered the motor down to give more room to reach those. You will need about 7 feet of extensions and a swivel to reach them.

I have a 5sp in mine and rather than buying a new clutch/pressure plate from centerforce for 400 bucks, I had my clutch, pressure plate rebuilt and flywheel resurfaced for 230 at a local clutch place. Don't buy a reman waterpump it's about 10 bucks more for a new one, spend the money.

Also I don't know what year your XJ is but I used a 96'ish head and intake for my 89 and I had to get new throttle cable. 40 bucks at the stealership.

HIs has the 0331 head on it! Thats why he bought a Golen! :D

Sorry I did read that but it didn't really register for some reason... 4 hours of sleep for the last 2 weeks may have something to do with it. I hide my head in shame now:anon:

And I was just going by what I've run into so far. Oh yeah make sure the old style steel ring is out of the crank. To the less experianced it makes for a long day running to parts stores trying to find the "right" pilot bearing when I had the right one all along. Just needed a slide hammer to removed the steel ring and press in the new bearing.

I bet PAT could help, he is real close to you.

Yeah i didn't even think about pat. I'd say gene too but he's usually working or something.

are you building the stroker or just installing the engine?

He ordered a Golen Long Block 4.6 he is swapping the motor and accessories

Geez don't people read the post??!!! Oh wait I did the same thing...

Kinda off topic why did you choose Golen? I looked at them, Titan, and Hesco before I decided to gather parts myself. So far I've ended up a little shy of the Titan cost (cheapest of the three IIRC).

Yep, I done volunteered already...as long as the dates work.

Hell, Brian is only a couple hours away. He should bring the green monster up and you all can just sleep in there.

HA! Thats a hell of an idea Pat!
