GUNS & AMMO

They are typically referred to as "80% lowers". So long as you finish the machining yourself (even if that finish is pushing the start button), they are legal. Quality varies significantly though. They will even do build parties where a shop will setup their CNC for the day to just run the 80% lowers. However the ATF doesn't take kindly to them because they typically will have the same company doing the machining that sells the 80% lowers and it gets just a little too easy.

EDIT: Technically according to the law, any gun that you build yourself is legal for possession but not sale. The 80% complete state is where companies have found the ATF to not give them significant hassle on so they stay there. And yes, any lower that was built from an 80% state cannot legally be sold or given to anyone else, ever.
Not to nitpick, but you can legally sell an 80% lower, as long as you are not doing it in mass. One or two shouldnt be an issue, but Id hate to go many more than that and have the ATF decide you are a manufacture and not a private citizen. Not sure why you would sell more than one 80% lower anyway, or why you would even sell any lowers at all! If you sell it, you would have to get it serialized, but you call legally sell or even SBR your 80%.

I would suggest Fred simply buy a cheap stripped lower from a local dealer. Name does not matter much since you are going to be building a Frankengun anyway, the roll mark will not matter for resale purposes. As long as you buy a good mil spec lower, go for it.
80%s are cool, but factoring in additional requirements of machining, they can become more expensive than a normal stripped lower.
Remember to factor in tax if you go local, and shipping/FFL fees if you buy online.

Not sure what the laws are in WY, but CO requires government issued ID with a CO address, so even though you own property in WY, if your license has CO listed, thats where you should get your lower.

Yah, yah, this is not about 80% lowers. I approached a certain machinist about that a couple of years ago. I don't care if there is a record that I own something. Getting it from me is a whole other question. :)

I think its time to sell my XDS, that Taurus is awesome looking. I can't wait to try one out.

Sold my bersa and have been carrying my dads ruger 1911 all week. Now I want something in 45 that has more capacity. Any recommendations for something around 14+1 in the pipe ( fnp, para, xd, and a few other wide body 1911)?

I had an FNP9 and it was a great weapon, now I have an XDM45 and I like it as well. I've also shot M&P's and like them a lot. You really can't go wrong with any of those 3.

Send me a text if you really want me to grab magazines.

Iwb if I want to really conceal it otherwise it conceals under my jacket just fine in my Blackhawk holster. But wyoming is open or conceal carry state so I usually just open carry unless I'm trying to be low profile.

I was suggesting the 30S for you, little easier to conceal, more firepower for when you need.

I don't have a .45 yet, although Gander is supposed to have a stainless Para for $295 on Black Friday.....

You could also get a 29 barrel, and mags, then go 10mm for some serious snap.

I would never trade a Springfield anything for a Taurus anything. I did have a PT145 until a botched takedown turned it into a paperweight. Taurus fixed it free of charge and I traded it for an XD.

Glock 41 with, uh, standard magazine.

To be fair I have no ass, but I cant imagine concealing anything that holds 15 rounds of 45:scared:

I tried to carry my XD9 thats 19+1 of 9mm which stuck out like a sore thumb.
Plus it felt like it weighed 10 lbs.

I do kind of want an XDS in 45 though, but I doubt it would have the capacity you are looking for.

XDS carries 7 rounds with the extended mag. If you need more than 7 rounds of .45 you're in a world of hurt. Besides, you can always carry more magazines.

My XDM-C is halfway concealable with its shorter barrel, on has higher capacity extended magazines.

Hypothetical:
I got shot in the arm. Badguy has 8+ friends. I am unable to reload or even rack the slide due to my injury, therefore I better have more than 7 rounds.

I am not in a position that I comfortably have enough time to drop the mag, squeeze the weapon in my knees (or reholster) and throw in a new magazine. I need to be putting lead down range at that exact point in time. This is all hypothetical and I doubt I will find myself in that situation, but if I don't have to conceal it and open carry most of the time why shouldn't I get something with more capacity. Heck lets just say, I want it, just because I want it (like an xj on tons and bogglers).
