Anybody ever do thisto an xj? Had the idea to get a better approach angle. Would prob only be like 2-3 inches Trim body and maybe some tube in the front. Jut wanted to see if anybody has done it

How would you get a better approach angle by stretching the front end by 2-3 inches?
Are you talking about moving the Axle up two to three inches and trimming the wells and fenders?

You will find there will be interference with the inner fenders when stuffing.

i'm pretty sure there will be interferences with steering linkages. Most likely you'll have to go to full-hydro. Also might be trouble with a trackbar, not sure what type of longarm you would use up front, but you'll probably have to move that around as well. Search on here for vetteboy's thread. I'm pretty sure he stretched the front (and the rear) a few inches. good place to start.

The bigger issue will be what to do about steering.

I was planning on building a front 3 link with the upper on the drivers side. New tracbar bracket, plate front frame rails, i would make new coil buckets up front with some sort of support runnning across the engine bay ares to the other side and tube the fenders and attache some part of the orginal fender onto the tube almost like a skin

x2.

What are you doing now where you're compromised by approach angle? With the right bumper and long arms, Cherokees have a pretty amazing approach angle. Check into the Moab4x4 Outpost bumper; probably the best out there.

where wuld i find more info about these? mayb i will just tube the front end a little and leave the wheelbas where it is

I pushed mine ahead 3/4" and i wouldnt go any further with out doing something for the steering, shock mounts, track bar, and coil buckets/ bump stop

my front end is stretched about 2". it's pretty mandatory to clear 37" tires without intruding your leg room.

i do rub the front of the inner fender a little, but its a nice smooth surface and hasn't hindered my steering noticably when a tire is stuffed.

steering still works, trackbar mount was moved back slightly along with the coil buckets to make the coils sit like stock.

You have any picures of the build or of the front suspension?

unfortunately my digital camera sucks and im on dial up so when it didn't suck uploading pics was a chore.

but im sure i could dig up a couple from wheeling runs that might help.

i used brackets that put the lca mounts behind the axle tube as opposed to under it and lengthened my upper control arm accordingly for the small stretch.
