This is an e-mail I received from Bret Plebe - President of Friends of Fordyce. The NAXJA Sierra Chapter has (in the past) been very helpful to this group in their preservation and work to keep our access to one of the great trails in northern California accessible to the public. Bret is a VERY nice guy, and a great guy to be on the trail with.

Hi All,

The Friends of Fordyce will be hitting the trail Saturday May 29th to assess conditions. We may not get as far as we’d like considering all the snow this year but we’re going to give it a shot. We’ll meet at the Indian Springs trailhead at 9:00 am on Saturday morning. If you want to camp Saturday night be prepared. If we don’t get far anyone would have the option of returning to the trailhead.

No need to inform me if you’re coming. We won’t be doing any large work projects. This is a fun/good to see you type of run. The most work we’ll do is clearing the trail of any obstacles so we can get as far as possible.

Hope to see you there!

p.s. Bring a shovel in case we have to clear snow to continue our progress.

dude, i so wanna go !
i already planned a cmping trip with my brothers, pops, uncles, and some other dudes i grew up with.
sucks. i doubt it, but ill see if i can change their minds to run fordyce instead!
right now we are going past sonora towards the clavey river to some cool camping spots we always go to

I asked Bret what he recommends in regarding rig requirements. Here's what he said:
For this run I would suggest at least 33’s (35’s would be better) with appropriate lift and since it is a snow run and will probably be pretty sloppy in the higher elevations lockers at both ends. Usually I would say a locker in the rear would be ok but in the snow it’s almost mandatory to be fully locked. Recovery gear and shovels. Plenty of supplies and food and warm clothes.

my front is technically a posi (truetrac...) only on 33's... still might go

i will be at boards crossing probably late late thurs night ...damn...

I really wanted to do this run, but it looks/sounds like there is still a TON of snow up there (40+ inches). I'm dying to get up there and do some camping, but I think I'm going to warmer and dryer places this weekend. If anybody knows any different, please chime in as I have been researching like mad to make a decision.

Well, I had a blast yesterday. The trail was pretty gnarly with all the snow in a few areas. I brought my dad along and we both had a lot of fun. We ended up turning back just before Sunrise Hill and the first water crossing because the other guys were camping (and we weren't).

Here's the pics:

I didn't have any carnage and the only body damage was a sunburn!
