hahaha yep thats me!! i don't remember seeing your xj though ? but we see alot of people come through there
ahhh k i remember you well anyway im sure ill see ya around town im down at pj's half the time workin on my jeep hopefully he sells you the yj !!
Bump for build plan for this thing cause I'm lost...first off I don't have lots coin to throw at this thing but I want to accomplish a few things
1.need to fit the 33"s on rig right now as they rub like crazy but I want to leave the ride height were it's at so I think I'm looking at a fare amount of cutting..
losing the fenders and lots of trimming is what all the cool kids are doing these days, that's usually the first thing I do to my rigs when I get em
2.upgrade the lift since it's pretty basic adj track bar, disconnects and add some arms wich I'm thinking will help with problem 1 by pushing axle forward.
3. Rock sliders/winch bumper...both of wich are way out my price range but I'm thinking I might be able get the sliders outa Dom and just weld em up..as for winch bumper I'm lost mabe a used one or such....
Not necessary to use DOM tubing, just go to a metal yard and get some 2x3 or 2x6 .250 wall square tubing. I actually went with .125 wall tubing and it's holding up just fine... I even welded it all up and painted it for less than $75
4.Locker:don't really feel like messing. With the dana35 so thinking of an Aussie or lockright and chromo shafts or trail spares
Any input is greatlly appreciated just keep in mind I'm on a razor thin budget..
do not spend any money on the d35 axle.
hit a pick & pull on 1/2 price day & grab a 8.25 jeep axle. get a late model xj one that has 29 spline axles. they are plenty strong & bolt right in. used lockers come up for them from time to time as well. don't worry about changing the shafts, they will be fine with your 33's.
razor thin budget, how capable do you want your rig?, you can go from mild to wild. My most expensive part was my shocks, my tb was 189, lower control arms 129 and leafs $35 it's easy to get tied up with these, pace yourself and do it right the first time.
There's a local trail High lakes most of wich is very very easy but I'd like to have it setup a little above that
Well Your jeep looks very able as it sits, someone reccomended the 8.25 but that axle is C-Clip... Which means if it fails your spitting your axle/tire out on the trail... Step up your game to a jeep Cherokee Dana 44 (30 spline) or exploder 8.8(31 spline) get your self some armor like sliders and bumpers and you'll be good to go...
littleleonard (landlfabrication) does xj winch bumpers for like 270 shipped.thats what i run. as for sliders, get some 2x6, and some 1.5x1.5" angle iron and do a full rocker replacement for about 120$ worth of steel, and some time welding it up.
Jcr Offroad has a winch bumper for $283 + $59 shipping on their bend and weld your own cnc bumpers http://www.jcroffroad.com/mm5/merch...OD&Category_Code=XJB&Product_Code=DIY-XJ-F-WN
And I don't think I was even $100 into my sliders but Jon might of went 1/4" thick...
I'm less than $100 into my front bumper build so far but I'm not making a winch bumper. Either... I Talked to people with winches... I have at least 5 people in my club that have winches and have used them less than 3 times in over 2 years. And with that said that's why I'm NOT going with a winch bumper, I think for a once annually sorta stuck I can deal with using a come along (if alone) or taking the strap from a friend... Just seems more like a status symbol to me more than anything. And the trick is to never wheel alone to begin with so not having a recovery option shouldn't be a worry.
i might have bought steel when the price was high, but i used 2x6 to do a full rocker replacement(98$ for the 2x6, i think .095 wall, or .120 wall and like 8$ for .120 wall 1.5"x1.5" angle, 2x62.5" lengths. ) . if i went with 2x2 .120 wall and made sliders instead it would have been about 50$.
The other option is to integrate the 2" receiver into the front bumper and utilize a removable winch plate and quick disconnects for the electrical connection. I know some very, very smart people who run that option. No extra weight on a daily basis, and the winch can be removed easily for storage (or moved to the back).
