E-code H4 headlight conversion with comparison pics Cheaper than Silverstars

All the pictures are nice. They show the projectors lighting up the side of the road a lot more than E-codes with high watt bulbs. That's a direct function of poor beam control.

I'm not too convinced I need 160 degrees of light when most of it is off the road. Might be nice approaching intersections or off roading, and lighting up deer 20 yards back in the field could help. I see that as being a better off road light than driving light. Old school, I was taught to put the light down the road precisely because of reduced reaction times at speed.

This is where HID still has to be DOT compliant, and for the money, I can use a setup that costs less, still works better, and doesn't annoy oncoming traffic. As said, aftermarket HID isn't all that great - at least E-codes do comply to somebodies regs and are proven for the last 20 years at high speed.

Not all aftermarket hi tech new applications really work as well as the hype. E-codes do give you your money's worth.

Got my Autopals installed tonight, I love them already! HUGE difference!! I went with the 100W/90W bulbs as well.

First, to improve the wiring. I bought this pre-made HD wiring harness from EAutoWorks that just plugs into my existing wiring, no hacking involved. Installed very easily.
Factory Replacement H4 Headlight Harness Upgrade Kit from eAutoWorks
HUGE improvement over stock, without even touching the bulbs!

Today I got the rest of the stuff to improve the lighting.

These are the E-Code H4 conversion glass housings from Autopal, and these particular ones have the city light in the housing as well. I also added on some high wattage bulbs, since I now have the wiring to handle them.

I did have to modify the headlight "bucket" to accomodate the city lights, which I will wire in later this week. This is the drivers side, I don't want to share the hackjob I did on the pass. side because I wasn't sure exactly where they would line up in the "bucket". :cover:

Here you can see how different the light pattern is. Autopals on the right, OEM sealed beam on the left. The Autopals have a very sharp cutoff to them, which I really like.
Low beam (I used flash on my camera because my camera sucks and won't pick up the difference otherwise)

High beam (again with flash)

Here's both sides in and aimed better.

High beam (Holy light output, Batman!!!)

Very Nice. I have the same set-up as you and the lights are fantastic!! I'm not comparing mine w/a nice set of HID's... but for the $$ it works for me. I don't even have to use the Hi-beams anymore.

BTW, I don't have the city lights as you do... but what exactly are those for? Please post a follow-up and let me know how you wired those up.

Thanks for the pics.

The city lights are just for looks. A lot of the euro cars across the pond have parking lights in the headlamps, that illuminate them when turned on. Not anywhere near as bright as a headlight bulb, but they make the housing glow a little bit and give a cool look at dusk. I have them, but didn't realize you had to cut the bracket like that when I got them, so I just threw some foil tape over the holes. They're also cool because you can wire them up as blinkers. So if you put an amber bulb in, your lights will glow amber with the blinker :)

Edit: Oh cool nice link. I like how he used amber bulbs. I'm sure that bulb's life is decreased by being RIGHT next to the h4, but those things are dirt cheap. Nice find.

Ever sit in traffic across from some retard who can't aim his headlights, or runs high wattage lamps? I'd be all for making everyone else run city lights.

sorry, but that looks as ricey as anything I've ever seen. oh and I just noticed the guy has a moon visor too...LOL
if you must have them you might as well get them in a quality light

Dan sells some nice stuff, but the price is way out of my league. Autopals fits my needs and budget quite nicely. Paint on that one looks nice. I just noticed the aftermarket/modified hood too. Beats the heck out of my 89 which has peeling paint, looks like a beater, and does great off-road.

Yes, Dan sure does sell good stuff. I prefer Susquehanna MotorSports for lighting products as their prices seem a bit more reasonable most of the time. And I'm a Hella fan. The hood is a used Reflexxion cowl I picked up pretty reasonably on Ebay. After many attempts trying to keep the stroker cool in all conditions, this hood actually does the job.

Do you have a link for those brackets? I can't find em on ebay...

Sorry ert01 - got distracted temporarily by some dickweed's post. I found the city light brackets by a Google search for just that: H4 city light brackets. They are not easy to find, sorry can't help any more than that mate.
