Durango/Colorado Questions

Hey all, I'm moving my family to Durango in about three weeks and I have a ton of questions for you guys who are living in the four corners area. I appreciate any help you can offer...

What are smog requirements in CO? I thought I read somewhere that it varies by county? If so, what about La Plata?

Is there some inspection (coming from California) I'll have to go through to change registration and will I have trouble with a slightly modded XJ?

What local four wheeling groups are there?

I think all this stuff is in my signature, but I've got a 96 2door with 6.5" of lift (mostly RE components), 33" BFG MT's, 4.56 gears, ARB in d30, LS in d35, and some other stuff--nothing too fancy.

Thanks for your help!

Congratulations on the move, Durango is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, so much to do, so much different terrain within a good distance.

Nothing, no testing what so ever in La Plata. I find it good but more often bad that they don't here, a lot of junkers running around.

Nah, I don't think so, when I moved here first thing I did is register my car, they looked at the title I gave them my money and that was that.

Creepers Jeepers is the local group. http://www.creeperjeepers.org/

Lets go wheel then!

Your in the same boat I was in a year ago. I moved from the central coast(San Luis Obispo) down here. I am going to go to the Durango Jeep club meeting next time( 1rst Tuesday of June) and I will let you know how it goes. Drop me al line sometime and we can go wheeling up in the mountains, I haven't been there yet but heard its great.

Welcome to the area.

Great! Thanks! I'll look you guys up when we get there. We're excited for the move and I can't wait to wheel. Last summer, my three year old son and I did the Rubicon--now we're excited to be able to check out the trails around Durango and hit Moab some time!

Kemosabe--I know what you mean about the up/down side of smog...we complain a lot here, but we also enjoy the benefits of the smog requirements. Fortunately, my XJ hasn't had any trouble passing and the 71 Suburban is exempt, but runs clean. Thanks for the info!
