this is HREW....
THIS is a visible seam....
when you compare a seam like this to a seam on DOM, you will understand why a few of us are saying that a dom seam is "almost invisible"....and from the OUTSIDE of most DOM tubing sections I've seen, ya just can't see it...

Either way what size tubing should I get?

XJguy said:if you have deep pockets go 4130, best stuff out there, but you pay a premium price and it has to be TIG welded....some say you can MIG it..but that kinda negates the purpose of using 4130 IMHO.

XJguy said:In competition I have seen requirements of 2.00" tubing if the vehicle has no roof and still exceeds 4000lbs

RCP Phx said:Here you go again talking about something you really know nothing about! Most production work is done with MIG and the "weld yeild strength is extremely close" to the base metal.Check the "wire" it already has minute quantities of the base material and picks up the rest during the welding process.
BTW:Chromoly aircraft frames are Oxy/Actylene welded !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beezil said:there he goes folks, rounding the second corner with yet another competiton reference! That xjguy must be one of those jeeping competitors you read about in magazines....
Wow, Xjguy, it sure is a good thing we have you around, if it wasn't for you, I'm sure the rest of us would be making a bunch of non-competition-approved cages for our jeeps......
and that would suck, because you know, anyone that mentions tubing or rollcages on this forum must be getting ready for another season of sanctioned competition.
can I have your autograph?
