Well i chose to post this in here...because i'm more interested to hear what "locals" have done...

I've got an '88 d30...vacum yucker and i'm looking to rid myself of it...i've searched on many forums and found lots of ways to remove/disconnect it... but my question is this... should i just try to find a cheap 96+(ish) HP D30 and swap my shiz in? (shiz being 456's lockright TJ shafts, brakes etc..)...or just make a posilock and be happy? if i do go the route of swapping to a newer D30...whats the going rate around here? Reno yards want $275(if they have them, they don't)...upto $550 for them...which just seems crazy to me... so i'm asking for ideas and suggestions... Thanks all...

I myself run a disco HP30. As do many people in the SC. Most of us have just blocked it off and put a seal in the housing and called it good. I like the disco housing cuz to me the pass upper control arm mount is stronger. most people block it off. If you are a DD and locked, maybe then do a disco cable. I dont DD mine, nor really drive it on the street, so i dont care.

No, mines not a DD, it actually just became trailer trash... just so i'm clear or not.... to block it off i simply pull the shaft, pull the vacum cover, remove the fork, install the seal (i think i've seen 4 different #'s for it) and reassemble but make a block off plate? is that correct? and one thing i haven't read about...what do you do with the hard vacum lines that are by the upper CA mount...? plug them? leave them? ....

Plug em.

Try the Pick and Pull in Reno/Sparks. PnP usually has plenty of non-disco housings around. If you get an early one from a 242 Selec-Trac rig, your hubs and brakes will interchange. A late model 30 has different brakes and rotors that won't interchange with your early junk.

what about if i have TJ knuckles and brakes? should i be looking for late 90's HP D30?

If you want to drive to Sac you can have mine from my '97 for $150 caliper to caliper. Has about 109K miles on it and has been sitting beside my house for a little over a year, so the rotors are a bit rusty.

I did a warn hub conversion and with the kit it came with the 2 seals and block off plate, I did not need it because I had the Non vacume axles so I gave to my friend Kell.

When we swaped over his to the solid axle, the long axle side from the the TJ with that hub would not fit, it rubbed on the break roter, so we just had to put his old hub on the new axle, but not a big deal and the seals took some work to get in.

I think Warn Sells the kit for around $50 it is 3 parts the 2 Seals and a flat plate, but the flat plate could be really simple to make, and then all you need is the full long side axle. Or find someone that bought the hub conversion kit and already has the Non-Vac axle, to give/sell cheep to ya.

Regarding my early junk...(i agree) i took the knuckles out and complete shafts from my buddies '00 TJ D30...when he went HP...so i have the knuckles brakes shafts everything... I swapped the DS in already because i blewup my 260 joint and it did a great job of tearing everything up. i hadn't done the PS because of the vacum disco...

If your not in anykind of hurry i'll be passing through in later dec 20th-ish...maybe sooner if the GF makes me gowith her to see her sister..... But i'd be interested....thanks....just seems like it would be easier to clean up those brakes and swap my innerds over...

You can have my 91' disco dana 30 housing for free if you want it. It's complete. You can at least get some good parts off of it like the hubs, axle shafts, rotors, diff cover etc. It's open with 3.55 gears.

If you don't need it Mr. Burns, it's up for grabs to anyone here that needs it.

Don't make the drive, there are no non-disco cherokees currently at PnP...

nope, their are only 4 crappy cherokees down there right now. Are you on reno4x4.com/forum ? If not, sign up, I am sauce over there :D

The south Sac pnp had a 95 XJ. The Rancho Cordova 1 off of Sunrise had 2 95-96' XJs that I remember. I was there a month ago, but it should still be there, they were pretty fresh. But you are not going to beat the deal that Jason has offered you or my free 91' disco dana 30. Best of luck bud. :)
