custom LED signal marker progress PICS

Well. These markers cost me roughly $200.... that included new signal markers, various parts, chroming, and shipping. I asked my buddy if he wanted me to send business his way, and he told me he's going to stick with headlight retrofits. He said these projects are too time consuming, and too difficult for him to assemble. Having said that, I'm sure he could be coaxed into making another set if someone really wanted one badly enough (but I'm sure the price would be higher).

The bad news is they'd have to be sent back and disassembled to resolder a new LED on the board. The good news is that LEDs last for a very long time.

Why not just a kit of the parts? I can sling a soldering iron, I can't make a PCB.

It was pissing rain all day, so I didn't install them yet, but I managed to take a decent
pic of the black chrome finish. It's a really strange color... sometimes it looks like gloss
black, sometimes it looks like chrome.

well there's a problem with the boards

Here's an action shot of the driver's side marker (it works like a charm)

but here's what's happening with the passengers side marker.

and depending which socket I use... i get this very uncool flashing HID foglight effect lol

I just emailed my buddy to see what he can do.

I apologize for the bump, but I have a question. I'm pretty good with LED wiring on a board, where did you get the lens covers from? If I was able to get the covers and a set of junkyard turn signal assemblies for the back, I could probably put something together fairly simply. BTW, this would be for a pre-97 XJ.

Well I got the markers back today, and I'm ready to call this project a failure. The LEDs are worst after the repair (if you can believe that). Moreso, the guy won't try repairing them again (he's given up). My only hope would be to ask the guy working on the LED tail light project to repair them (if that's at all possible). Here's a video breakdown of the my problems.

DRIVERS SIDE - parking lights are off - LEDs are very dim, middle LEDs don't work.

Dang that sucks. I was pretty pumped to see these things actually work. I dunno how it could have gone so wrong? I mean LED's can cause some funky things if you directly replace halogen's with them, but in the end it's a polarized + and - ... I might have to do a little R&D.

man that sucks those would look really nice...any idea what went wrong? bad circutry or something else?

Everything is squirrely with this project. These markers were set-up to use only one of the 3157 sockets (you leave the second one empty). You had to watch for polarity when you plugged the markers into the socket or nothing would work, and if you used the other socket - the foglights would flash. Personally, I'm at a loss, and I'm out a fair chunk of change (when you consider the return shipping, customs, and exchange rates).

All I can do now is wait for John (the tail light guy) to get back to me. Maybe he can help.

I would have sent them to John instead back to that original clown. Are the parking lights suppose to be dimmer than the flasher, or should the flasher be the same brightness, but just flashes?
