Steve was one hell of a guy. He's done more for the understanding and protection of animals than anyone could hope to in a lifetime. An asset to the zoological community and science as a whole, he will be missed.......
Too bad he got himself killed but um....An asset to the zoological community????

Hardly. the guy was a show boater who did things on the edge for ratings and nothing else.

Scientists shunned him because of his antics...not the other way around.

That being said...he was entertaining.

ya i cant believe it, as a reptile keeper myself we def wathched him a lot, and i cant believe he went that way.

No! damnit that sucks. he'll probably be like Tupac and have 100 new recordings released as shows though. still sad RIP

Too bad for his wife and kids. However, why are the people in the "How stupid can people be" post considered idiots but someone who grabs on to a stingray, crocodile, deadly snake....et al, not stupid but instead is lauded?

To quote some Aussie's I met in Moab a few years ago: "That guy's a real wanker"
**Admin Edit: Personal attack removed**... Why would you say something like that. His shows were a lot of fun to watch. His " antics " Are what got young people to watch and get interested in wild life. Its to bad...

its kinda weird but i miss him and i never met the guy, i feel bad for his kids, we should all respect the guy for what he did cuz he had some huge balls, and we all know that none of us could ever wake up in the morning and be able to go to that everyday, i know i couldnt

His "antics" are what made him a "wanker"

I hate to see that he died.

I am glad he died doing what he loved...we should all be so lucky.

He was no scientist and gave science a bad name.

He could be put in the same category as the dudes on Jackass...only not that stupid.

It's always a bummer when somebody dies before there time and especially when they leave a young family behind.
That said, anybody who runs around playing with poisones snakes in shorts, is kind of asking for it. Kind of proves my philosophy, that sooner or later the law of averages is gonna bite you in the butt. And planning for the worst and hoping for the best, is likely the best survival tactic.

he will be missed

R.I.P Steve

My prayers go out to his family. He was awsome. When my daughter told me I was hoping that it was just a sick joke until I Googled it and.............. I'm sorry for the loss of your countryman. I think he was an asset to the zoological community. I have the feeling that Bindi won't let him die that easily, if you know what I mean.

Vaya con Dios, Steve. We'll miss you.

LOL, I do not think he ever claimed to be a scientist. How did an animal rescue/conservationist give scientists a bad name? That is like saying truck drivers give bike riders a bad name when they crash. Completely different. That makes absolutely no sense. My GF is a scientist type, and is nothing like Steve (thank the cults).

Wanker? maybe to some. Annoying at times? Yes. Brought attention to animals we usually dislike? You betcha. Did great things for endangerd critters? Hell yes. A big fan of family? Obviously and without a doubt.

IMHO, nobody has done as much (TV related) good for critters since Mutual of Omaha's show way back when.

You do not like him? fine. Feel free to piss on somebody elses thread when they are memoralizing the dead. Way to go sport.

I am still shocked by the news. This morning on The Today Show or whichever one is on ch. 8, they were replaying his interview about the baby and crocodile incident. About half way through his daughter came and sat on his lap and said, " When I grow up I want to be just like my daddy." That was heartbreaking to watch and my sympathy goes out to his wife and kids.

Steve would have been a "Cool" dad the type that lets you feed the crocs and drive the boat .

Did you see the clip where he took his newborn son out into the crocodile pen with him in front of his audience as a teaching point? Walking him on the ground? There's a line, called common sense. Sensationalism aside, I know he'll be missed by a lot of kids.

x2, I'm really not trying to be cold, just disagree with some of his antics. Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and kids.

Yes it is very sad, I have just been over to the Zoo and put our flowers down and to see all the staff that upset was not a good thing. but he must of treated them very well as they said it was like a big family (over 300 staff).

The Sunshine Coast is missing him already by the show of support..

I didn't dislike him really. I was sad when I heard he died and he should be memorialized.

Still....he was kind of a wanker.
