Countdown to Moab!

Well, google maps puts it at a 6 mile difference. I crewed on Race Across America in 2006, and the route took us through Flagstaff, Tuba City, Kayenta, Mexican Hat, Montezuma Creek. Monument Valley was awsome scenery. We were going across country at at average speed of 15mph. Took 3 days to go from Oceanside to Cortez Utah, some very scenic country. On the drive back, I had the family with us, so we backtracked it, and stopped by the grand canyon, etc. I'll probably take that route. Anyone in SD going who'd want to caravan? Hell, Rick should be taking that route too, looks like it's 50 miles shorter for him to go 86-I10 and towards Phoenix.

Get to Flag. the quickest way you can... then enjoy the ride from there on...

I always like to go to Moab via the 15/70. Then come home through Monument Valley. Great drive.

Yeah, I'm probably going to stick with I8, since it's 3 miles from me. Almost all interstate except for AZ85 which skirts Phoenix. For me it shows about a 6 mile difference. I also get to avoid I15/I215 traffic. If I go Brawley, Blythe, Prescott I can actually shave 20 miles off the trip but add an hour.

Driving the camper and towing, I want the easiest way, and I want to just get there. Thankfully, I've been on enough wheeling trips recently in UT and CO that the truck just about knows it's own way up I15.

I have driven the other ways, though, and they are nice.

So i have a little issue to deal with now..... Just got word a race has been moved to Saturday October 11, which means i need to be in Austin TX Friday night.
So im thinking i could still leave for Moab as planned on Friday 3rd, wheel untill Thursday, drive to Salt Lake City on Friday, fly to TX, race Saturday, fly back to SLC sunday morning & drive back to Moab to Pick up my Jeep & Trailer (that you boys have been keeping a watchful eye on).

Just sucks, i'll miss the BBQ and wheeling that weekend.

I'm thinkin' that this will be a two week trip for the wife and I.
We will be taking the southern route through Flagstaff then spending a day or two at the Grand Canyon then head on into Moab by Sunday.
The trip home will consist of a few stops at relatives (Kanab, Utah) then maybe a couple of days in Vegas.

We will keep an eye on your rig for you Matty!

Also, Rich, the official name of the Friday night BBQ is 'The Butt Buggy BBQ'
Maybe you could incorporate that into the T-Shirts?
