Ok,

Looking at getting an air compressor for the garage and was wondering what some of your opinions were.

I'm just going to need to be powering a impact wrench and a grinder every once in a while.

Will I be happy with a 30 gallon or will I be left wanting more? I shouldn't even think about going any lower than a 30 should I?

Brands - Good deals would be nice if you know of any.

I have a 60 gallon big compressor, and I love it. It doesnt run all the time which is nice. Only down fall is they are expensive, unless you find them used. I would look for a used compressor in good condition.

I have a 25gal and I can't run a die grinder but for about 5 minutes. It's quite frustrating. I just bought an electric die grinder and leave the compressor for pumping up tires...

I had a 30 or 33 gallon chraftsman compressor and it powered everything but the die grinder fine. I could run the die grinder for a few minues before I had to let thte compressor catch up.

craigslist normally has loads of awesome deals on compressors.

i would definitely go for the bigger the better approach.

I have the exact same, mines a 30 gal, die grinder or cut off wheel is a bit of a pain I can only run it for a few minutes but for everything else its great I use my impacts all the time even used a spray gun to bed line the interior of my jeep and it held up fine. I bought mine new so I know the history, and I didn't want to get something then have to farm parts together for the motor.

Only thing I would recommend is to stay away from the maintenance free types. They are normally much louder, and I find maintenance free not so maintenance free.

Ok,

So if I look into a 60 gallon it looks like it involves a lot more than plug n play. Any advice on what all is needed?

Depending on what 60 gallon you get you might have to run wire for a 220v outlet, you will also want to run the output through a drier/filter. You will be very happy if you go bigger, the 30 gallon compressors just don't cut it if you want to do more than air up some tires and hit a few bolts with an impact. I would seriously look into buying used. I love buying used tools because you can get serious tools for very cheap, hell the pawn shop around the corner from me had a 70% off sale on tools the other day, got over $500 worth of tools for under $80 and they are all quality tools.

Mine is 220v and I added an outlet for it. I forgot to tell you that like he is talking about.

Ok got a buddy that has done it before. The 220 won't be a problem I just wasn't sure about running the drier etc....
