Colorado trip in the making.

Hey there my Brothers to the South East...

Next year me and a couple buddies are planning an epic trip across Colorado for 9 days.

I want to start out on the trails around the Leadville area and work my way south towards the San Juans.

We will start wheeling either Sat or Sun of one week and end Sat of the next week over the last week in July and the First week in August.

I pretty much have the trails figured out I want to hit when I hit the San Juan area but I need a little help planning the first few days of the trip. I would like to start off around I-70 and work my way south west.

Thanks for any ideas you can give me...

If you start from Denver, I would do Red Cone, to Radical Hill. From Breckenridge, head south to BuenaVista. From there do St. Elmo to Tincup to Taylor Park. From there go over Taylor Pass to Aspen then over Pearl Pass to Crested Butte. From CB head over Schofield Pass to Crystal to Marble. From there you can head towards Ouray. That should keep you busy for 2-3 days of beautiful country.

hey Ryan....are you driving your rig the whole trip, or will you be towing with the short bus/camper?
Towing I'm sure. I don't know what the others have in mind as far as camping-sleeping arrangments but at least half the trip will be in the camper for us.

As far as Co Fest... We will be there the last week in July and might stop in but this run will be a celebration of sorts for me getting out of the whole "organized naxja" thing.

I doubt we would stay long. Too much ground to cover and not enough days.

How far is it from....

A. The holy Cross trail area to Buena Vista?

B. Buena Vista to Ouray-Silverton area?

My thoughts are to stay in the North area and wheel July 26th 27th and 28th, Have Tues the 29th as a travel day to get to Durango. My son is a train fanatic and we want to ride the train there on Wednesday, then wheel the San Juan's Thurs, Fri and Sat.

IF you guys are going to be in the area the first part of the last week in July we might hook up with you.

Thanks Randy, Buena Vista is definatly on my Radar.

Right now there are three have too's

Holy Cross, the Silverton train and the San Juan passes.

I figure Holy Cross is a good a place to start as any coming from Utah.

We want to do the San Juans last cause it's closest to home.

I might be in the San Juans then. We went this past summer on the last weekend of July. The Wildflowers should be great then.

Here are some train pics to wet your son's appetite. I love the train. These are from Dec. '06.

My kid didn't want to get off of that train. I had to throw him over my shoulder and then he was screaming and kicking and yelling NO NO. He used to watch the video we bought frequently.

Now he watches South Park. :looney:

You better holler at me when the time comes closer - I'd be in for the Holy Cross run!

Or at least stop thru Denver so we can meet up for dinner or sumpthin'.

How do you "stop thru" denver if you are coming from Utah?

Would be fun to wheel with ya. I promise not to spot you on any off camber stuff. :D
