Wheeled last night up in the mountains here. Got on it pretty good with this rooted rutted out hill climb. Even got hung up and had to winch up.
Gears feel fine and don't hum and I didn't break for once... Might hit slick rock soon for some fun and fishing
Finally got around to installing the ps cooler. It's the smallest Hayden cooler I could find. I need to move my winch solenoid box to the engine bay and maybe hook up a wireless remote. And move my license plate so my radiator isn't so restricted with airflow. It's been really hot lately. Ac would be nice too..
Probably so.. debating on going 44front or just go back to 231.
The closest I've been to flopping as well.. twice. One time I and everybody else thought I was going over. Haha good teamwork and smart thinking from cal and seal
So ever since you got the 4:1 you starting breaking parts left and right. sell the 4:1 to fund fixing your 30 and wheel for the rest of the season, and start prowling for a hp44 thats all built up.
Must be performance enhancing drugs. Your right calf muscle is way too big for the 4:1.
Maybe pull a few spark plug wires next trip for less power, and stop drinking so much coffee.
A D44 front is only marginally stronger from strickly an axle shaft point of view.
Are you running chromoly shafts? How much money do you have sunk into your D30 right now? Did you buy cheap gears? Who set up the gears for you?
A 30 spline ARB and alloy shafts/CTMs for your D30 may be cheaper in the long run when deciding to build up a D44. Just depends on what your plans are for the rig and how much you have sunk into your D30 at this point.
I was blowing up my D30 shafts until I learned how to drive better. Have to be conscious of how bound up the front wheels are and go easy with the throttle. I don't plan on going bigger than 35's at all so it was an easy decision to build my D30.
Def keep the 4:1, you'll want it again later, and its always cheaper to keep stuff than sell and rebuy it.
Whatever broke in your 30 has to be a fluke, I've never seen anything like it (you can see the carrier flopping around thru the axle tube, and carrier bearing chunks came out of the tube).
Find a cheap full case locker and a new set of chromo shafts, and bribe BryanC to help with the setup, and I think it will last until you can build up a 44.
in that case,
yeah go with a grizzly then. full case locker wont flex on you.
set the pattern up real tight too. should be good for the rest of the year . start looking for a built 44 for sale.
