Chinese Hummer's

They can only make them better.
:roflmao: I never thought I'd see that line referencing China.

EDIT: you forgot "cheaper"

The multi-million dollar military spending question is:

What will they replace them with? We can't have a potential enemy supplying us military vehicles.

AM General builds the HMMWVs and built the H1, the Hummer name was all GM had. GM then applied it to the H2 nd H3. The HMMWV is still built and owned by AM General.

... hummers, not HMMWVs. Unless I'm mistaken.

Depending on to which you are referring, both are correct except Hummer would be capitalized. The HMMWV (High Mobility Multiple Wheeled Vehicle) is the military vehicle that was designed in the late 70's as a replacement for the GP. AM General won the contract, hence putting the HMMWV that we know into production. They came to be nicknamed Humvee (phonetic pronunciation of the acronym) and then hummer, hence the brand name. Much like how the GP came to nicknamed jeep and then the brand Jeep was formed, taking advantage of the name recognition already afforded. The Hummer is the civilian brand consisting of (formerly) the H1, the H2, and the H3.

The MRAP isn't meant to be a full replacement for the HMMWV. It's too large and heavy to be transported as easily as the HMMWV. It's meant to complement the HMMWV.

I still don't understand the hatred that Jeepers have for Hummers. If anything, the Hummer is like a cousin to the Jeep. Both are extensions of a brand built off a civilianised version of a military vehicle. They needed the new one to be a little bigger, so that was what it was designed for. Sure, an H1 or HMMWV may not have flex numbers, but neither does the original Jeep. Neither was designed for that. If you just don't like the H2 or H3 because they're not the same as an H1, compare the XJ or WJ to the original CJ2

As former military I can say the military hummers are bada$$! For me whenever I see a civ humvee they are chromed out( including the hood lifts) and running huge rims, or soccer mom's destin for the mall to spend an hour trying to park them!

A: There are no "Hummers" in the military unless they are given by female personnel.

B: What is a humvee? :dunno:

Those M-RAPs look ridiculous.

M-Raps are designed to take a blast unlike the boxy blow a hole through it HMMWV.

Ugly but practical

Indeed. Last I heard the only casualties had been suffered as a result of a rollover. They're pretty top heavy and people didn't know how to drive them right off-road. Hence the M-ATV.

Humvee=HMMWV pronounced phonetically.

I drove both stock and modified Force Protection MRAPs while working at NATC as a co-op test engineer. If you drive them smart and are careful then there is no problem. The stock 4x4 is ~36k and the 6x6 is ~51k lbs and 80% of the weight is above 2 feet. we tested them on a 30 percent slide slope so it takes quite a bit for the MRAPs to rollover

We also had HMMWV as support vehicles they could go just about anywhere but the ride quality was shit...

The JLTV is supposed to be the future replacement for the HMMWV. The prototype that we had NATC CTV is larger then a HMMWV but can hold 2 more people, do a google search to get some more info.
