It is nice to see someone else interested in stewardship.
I know I have brought up the topic. While nobody said "no," there were some obstacles to the club adopting a trail:
First, is that nearly all the trails have already been adopted.
Second, is that the available trail(s) may be too far away, or too rough to ensure a large number of participants.
Third, is that someone has to be the liaison between the club and the entity involved.
Not everyone will have the patience to wade through the red tape involved with government agencies. What looks practical to us, is a mile of red tape and training sessions for the Volunteer Coordinator at the Ranger District. If you think the rules are silly, try looking at why the rules are in place. Yes, the government is involved, and they have rules for everybody.
I would like to know, who else would give a two days a year to go pick up someone else's trash, on a trail you may not like?
It is one thing to take on the responsibility of getting something like this set up, it is another to be doing it all by yourself. Mike, thanks for asking the question, again.
