I didn't want to step on toes and cross lines so was curious if we were allowed to do anything with stay the trail as a chapter. Or if there is anything else that might work. I know we talked before about how adopting a trail wasn't gonna.work but maybe through them we can.figure something else to do to help in the area.......

any comments answers or concerns?

It is nice to see someone else interested in stewardship.

I know I have brought up the topic. While nobody said "no," there were some obstacles to the club adopting a trail:
First, is that nearly all the trails have already been adopted.
Second, is that the available trail(s) may be too far away, or too rough to ensure a large number of participants.
Third, is that someone has to be the liaison between the club and the entity involved.

Not everyone will have the patience to wade through the red tape involved with government agencies. What looks practical to us, is a mile of red tape and training sessions for the Volunteer Coordinator at the Ranger District. If you think the rules are silly, try looking at why the rules are in place. Yes, the government is involved, and they have rules for everybody.

I would like to know, who else would give a two days a year to go pick up someone else's trash, on a trail you may not like?

It is one thing to take on the responsibility of getting something like this set up, it is another to be doing it all by yourself. Mike, thanks for asking the question, again.

Well i see things like the closings on mt Herman and upper gold camp and get worried about other areas. I wonder about the trail development in penrose. what better way to get naxja out there??

No, he lived in GA but after getting out fiddled he moved to Jamaica and started selling marijuana. :D

We greatly appreciate the interest. We recently have built the Stay The Trail Ambassador to accommodate anyone who would like to help us promote stewardship and responsible ethics.

The goal is to have Ambassadors carry the Stay The Trail Ethics anytime you are on the trail. We hold our training sessions all online now, so it is easy to get trained and involved. We need as many volunteers as possible!

However, we are also will be holding Stewardship Runs throughout the summer. These dedicated runs are to saturate an area with folks to help with basic maintenance needs, education, and document and maintenance needs we can not tackle ourselves.

Look for our future posts about upcoming runs!

Given that I am retired Engineer accustomed to pushing mounds of paper and having all bloody day... I will cheerfully chase whatever paperwork is required once a decision is made by the club.

You have but to ask.

120+ people have viewed this thread and but 3 of them have contributed any sort of.relevant input or concerns or ideas........
To those guys thanks, ill let ya know what i hear back from any of the state programs....
To the rest, guess its funny everyone wants to avoid the topic but later ***** if places get closed. If you're not interested in doing anything with this idea post up and say so. It would be nice to know where you members stand..... Tom and I have had a talk, but where's the rest of the bod??? you guys have anything.to voice? do you even care?
Everyone can post in a thread about a douche and his rig he's trying to sell...but no one will post about what is relevant to what most of you enjoy and do????
:dunno:

Everyone cares Mike, but not everyone can drop what they are doing to come up with a meaningful answer. This issue has come up many times and everytime it has been decided that the paperwork and work involved to adopt a trail is not worth it.

My opinion is why go through all that work to get "permission" to clean a trail. Do we not already clean up every trail that we wheel on when we are out there already? As we all know with the shooting clean up up we did even though we did a great job it is still going to be closed. All we can really do is keep doing what we are doing and clean up the trouble areas and hope for the best.

I already said adopting a trail is out. Like you said we have beat that to a pulp. Im talking about joining up with STT/TL and working with them to further efforts.

That area and several others by monument are now closed. FS blamed it on lack of effort.

Why go through all the work? - well, because I want my family and friends to be able to enjoy the same places i enjoy, which requires keeping places open and accessible.

I think Mike is trying to push for recognition. Not even so much as to get NAXJA/CO Chapter's name out there, but to show that the trails still open and accessible are valued and cared for by those that use them. And to show intent on keeping them open/fighting for access.

There really isn't any strenuous paperwork process an there's no cost to adopting a trail, but like what's been said already..... all close-ish trails are adopted. We looked into this a couple years ago and the closest trail on the list of adoptable trails at that time was Iron Chest..... which isn't much of a trail and is more of an access to private mining claims. The distance for most members kept this from being a popular choice and the idea faded away.

But yes, as long as we as a 'wheeling community do all we can to always clean trash/debris off the trails each time we use them, we limit the chance of them being closed for looking like the area is being abused.

Trail maintenance (the physical repair of the trail) is where things get sticky. Sure, we could all get together with shovels and saws and do what we feel is repair...... but the entities actually responsible to be maintaining these areas would likely see us doing more harm than good if we're not keeping drainage/vegitation concerns in mind when doing so. Ya dig?

Mike's attempt to work with those entities recently regarding those shooting sites up along Old Stage is a perfect example. They'd rather close those areas down than be responsible for them.

It's pretty aggravating.

LOL...... I posted the same time as Mike did......

So does this mean that because we cant adopt a trail, or wont adopt one due to distance, that we should just bow our heads and let places keep getting closed? STT/TL is large and growing and has ties to most if not all of the people that do the cleanups and maintenance of the trails in the state. By working WITH them we would be expanding our contact circle to other groups who could use out help and resources. The paperwork submitted for the work being completed would show more volunteers and hours and efforts. Plus it tosses Naxja's name out there as far as trying to help. Trying to get involved. Look across the state and the trails and access road and tell me where naxja has its name out there for helping the cause? Cuz I dont see it.

Yer preachin' to the choir Mike. I'd love to see it happen...... but the reality is adopting a trail comes with responsibility and committment.

One guy isn't enough. Gotta have folks committed to making this happen - folks that can and will show up on the trail maintenance days. There's been a bunch of good intentions tossed out there by folks in our Chapter...... not a lot of follow through.

I'm not trying to shoot down the adopt a trail thing, but having our club's name attached to a trail and not getting anything done with it would be a bad thing.

I do encourage folks to get involved with the S.T.T. activity though. Sounds like a good thing. And if the CO. Chapter can participate WITH them in their endeavors I'm sure the Chapter BOD would support that.

I must be typing something other than what I am thinking.

I am in no way shape or form trying to suggest adopting a trail at all what so ever.....

I am curious if there are people here who care enough to participate in stuff in THEIR area. Im trying to get more specific info from STT/TL about membership stuff and if the Chapter itself could be a member.

Why do we have so many people with good intentions and words but no one showing up? Not asking to drive to other end of the state or participate in every single clean up or maintenance day or anything like that. If there is something set up in your area, you are off of work and can attend something that STT/TL is putting on, would anyone go and represent Naxja out there, or is this just a big waste of time.

Make better sense at what im getting at?

BOD...I forwarded some information to Tom about some convos between me and STT/TL that we can look into per his request. You can get that info from him or me if you would like.

It would be sweet if the chapter got credit for hours spent participating in the STT program. If nothing else, this could be a chapter activity in conjunction with the STT rides. It can't hurt to get our name associated with positive activity.

Part of the deal with them is they publish supporting groups in their flyers and on their website....
