Big Bear - Nov 5,6,7 weekend?

http://www.snowforecast.com/tempmap/socal_temps.php

Does anyone know if there are goign to be any camp fires allowed in the big bear area? Those kinda temps are a bit to chilly to hang outside and BS. I'm thinking those who are interested in camping may want to try the back side of big bear in the lucerne valley area. I know a lot of great spots out there and we can have as big of a fire as we want. (i'll even bring the aftershock to warm up your insides).

I am thinking that I can get some people out there we can camp and in the morning go up HWY 18 into the city. I imagne it would take around 30-45, but I have never personally driven it. All of this for a fire :laugh3:

Make sure fires are legal there and I'm up for it. You'll just have to sound the earlier wake-up call to make sure we get to the meeting point at the right time for anybdoy who chooses not to camp :)

Aint that the thruth. The last big bear trip we (Sequoia and I) left the IE at about 9pm, little did I know that he was planning on going half way to AZ and then up the side of the moutain. Needless to say as we roll into camp finally @ 2am I was a little tired. :speepin:

IF it's going to be cold you're not going to have to worry about overheating :)

Nope..just long, very long. I told Scot it'd be the long way though!

It was heading up through Yucca Valley, then taking 2N02 up there, to 2N04. Factor in work scrweing up my schedule and making me get out late, stops to eat and pee, and my father taking a long time to get his stuff together when we got to Yucca and you get there late as hell.

Oh..and Scott...it was more like 3.30 or 4!

You got that right! I should get a tatoo of that.

You gonna be up there with us Curt?

I agree....

the gauge seems to jump to 1/4 as soon as the engine starts... then rapidly climbs from there.

The fan does not come on and the engine really doesn't feel "Overheating" hot...

i'm at a loss of what to do next... I've tried everything I know.

Steven - Put that manual guauge you have in to check your electric guage. Report yoru findings. I'm always battling overheating.

Also - Does it get "hot" while driving at a decent speed? If so it is not going to be because of that fan, that fan will only help in heavy traffic and stopped.

Mostly stop and go

Something is still telling me that it's a faulty gauge....

wire an inline switch man on the fan. It will be a temp fix but will allow you to make the run. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more talking until you get this wired :hang:

yes, fires are cool there. There has never been a problem with it in the past. It is just an idea, I dont know if we even had a count as to how many people would be camping.

Who is all planning on camping?

Not trying to to use the word neener or nothing, BUT. It was really nice up there yesterday. I ran Gold Mtn. ant the approach to John Bull. Every where that I went I was the first vehicle to have been through. The southern side of GM had about 8" of snow while it was a little more than a foot at the start of JB. I only ran into (literally) one other group of two sammies while on GM. Got to put my front ds flare back on today. Oops. I tried to go through the rocks there on GM, no way. As it was it took me an hour to get back out of the dip at the beginning. Ended up taking the bypass. Funny how slickery that white stuff is.

Anyway, there should still be some white stuff left by next weekend when you guys get up there next weekend. Especially John Bull. You all have fun:exclamati

Hey gang,

I am excited for the weekend! It's my first run in my XJ, therefore, my frist run with the group. I am installing my rock rails and JPG belly skid this week. (anyone want to give a hand?, I'm in OC)

Is there a need to get a set of tire chains (cables) for this run? I don't want to be overly cautious, but I don't want to get "stuck" either.

Also, just want to confirm the meeting time and place: 9:00 AM @ Big Bear Discovery Center, back side of the lake????

See you guys Sat.

Thanks,

Robert

For the run itself I wouldn't worry about chains, I don't own a set myself, but you might need them to get up the mountain, I'm not sure if they will be requiring them. I'll be heading up that way Friday after work, if chains are required I plan to go around the backside of the mountain (through Yucca Valley) and going up via 2N02 (easy trail).
