Good XJ Driver Seat recommendation?

Howdy Y'all - It's been a number of years since I hopped on NAXJA - glad to see some familiar names in the SoCal Chapter!

I've decided to start working on my XJ again, after not doing much of anything for the last 4 years. Feels good to have a renewed interest in the vehicle :)

My driver seat is dying a sad death and I'm looking around at replacements - looks like MasterCraft Safety, PRP Racing and Rugged Ridge make seats that will work in the XJ.

Does anyone have these, or different brand seats, and can speak to any likes / dislikes?

Thanks in advance for any info y'all might have.

Cheers!

I picked up a set of Rugged Ridge. I am not impressed.

I have sat in a couple different PRP seats in other folks' XJs. The "Daily Driver" version seems like a reasonable fit for me, but I have concerns about losing head room. Being a bit on the tall side I don't have much room to spare before I start bouncing my head off the roof.

Being in Los Angeles means you don't have far to go in order to visit PRP in Temecula. That is a factor that matters to me.

I love my PRPs! They aren't cheap but I have had them 7 years and they are holding up amazingly.
They are the Enduro Daily Recliners.
Just looked at their site, wow have they gone up in price!

Before I had the PRPs I had WJ seats. They were good as well. Not sure if you could find a low mileage set any more?

@Anak
Oh, that's really good to know - thanks for the feedback on the RR seats. I didn't even know PRP was 'local', that is absolutely worth a drive to do the butt-test. I too am pretty tall, so that's another good thing to consider!

@phydeaux33
I'll take a look at those too - thanks!

@DaJudge
A lot of folks I know who have PRP's are really happy with them. They are quite expensive. That's the model I'd do with if I end up with PRP. I haven't even looked in the used market at all - I'm assuming everything I'll be able to get will be old af and clapped out like my driver seat - although I suppose I should look before I rule it out.

Thanks everyone!

In the same boat here, stuck on front seat choices. I want a "stock" feeling seat. And definitely won't be spending $500 plus.

Honestly just wanted to recover the factory seats, but can't find tan leather for a 96 anywhere 😫

I’d be very happy with a factory seat… maybe I should just take this to a reupholstering place and see what they can do.

I have PRP seats. Very comfortable. We had to make mounts for them, but I also used the PRP adjustable tracks, since it's a 2 door, and I wanted to be able to slide the seats forward to ease access to the rear seat.

I believe they are the Daily Driver. It's a suspension seat, so no strain even on long drives. They also recline and fold forward.

If buying new, you have tons of selection for material, colors, stitching, heat, lumber support.

If you opt for reupholstering, I know a tremendous place in Pasadena.

DAVE! Good to hear from you - it's been many years. Hope you're doing alright and recovering from your heart surgery!

I'm glad to hear you are happy with the PRP seats. Was making mounts a requirement because PRP didn't have an XJ kit or was there another reason? I did notice the heated option - every option is an additional 100$! However - my daily driver has heated seats (a first for me) and WOW do I like them. I just ordered switch pro 9100 system, so I could easily add seats to the buttons......

I'd love the connection details / intro to your upholstering person... I really want a much better driver seat - I've got to figure out if buying new or "refurbing" is the way to go though.

One other thing to consider with PRP seats: They now offer "cooled" seats: Fancy, new PRP option

I gather it is intended as an alternative to air conditioning.

:eek: Not a chance that I'm installing seats that are worth more than the jeep.

If I operated off that premise I couldn't do anything more than an oil change on most of my vehicles.

Thanks, I am recovering amazing well from my bypass surgery. Sticking strictly to the rehab regimen made a world of difference.

I swung by the upholstery guy today. Same guy still owns it as when I had my headliner done, and he ever remembered the job. He did an amazing job; far better than the Jeep deserved.

It's a small shop and a messy shop, but don't let that detract you from the job he can do.

Do you want a new seat or do you want your seat to work?

It's not a huge thing to weld an XJ seat back together. They're weak AF but pretty easy to repair. I've done it a couple times and could probably be bribed into doing it again.
