But no, wrapping a strap around the ball is a bad idea.
Zuki-Ron said:Perhaps what you are thinking of is the practice of using a Class III hitch as a tow point by stuffing the loop end into the receiver and inserting the pin. This is generally accepted because the pin is rated in double sheer to the hitch rating. Because the strap loop is the size of the receiver, it is argued that that condition continues to exist with the strap installed instead of the tounge. However, it is a PITA to do when you need to access your hitch under water or in the mud.
