One of the best things about the 4wd rams is that you can easily fit 34"s, even 35's (with minor rubbing on tight turns), without lifting them!
35s on a tow rig with a v-10... you deff asking for horrible mpgs....even with the 6.0 id imagine unloaded you are prob gonna get 10mpg. loaded with tools and jeep in tow your prob gonna get about 5mpg.
like mentioned.... get a CTD and be done with it.
lots of my buddies are running 35s-37s on the chevy ifs.... the 3/4ton ifs is alot beefier than you would think.

really? like what kinds problems? i put 150k miles on mine and all i replaced was little things. Not going to bother with the 6.0. My roomate has one and he has constant problems. I feel reallly bad for his insurance co. They lost at least 10 grand just last year to him and his pos 6.0. It only has like 63k on it and he's always in the shop.

glow plugs, fried ground wires touching something hot, hubs, tcase...thats all he's told me about but he doesn't always want to talk about it in moments of angst and disapointment. So i don't know the whole story about all the breakages.
Yes 6.0L GM truck gasser = pretty amazing.I think you two may be talking about different 6.0s...6.0 Chevy V8 vs 6.0 Ford Powerstroke diesel...I've heard bad about the 6.0 Powerstroke and good about the Chevy 6.0 V8, although it won't pull like a diesel.
460's usually get around 8-10mpg towing or not, so mileage.. meh. But they have power. One of the best big blocks made, and I would take a 460 over a Ford V10 any day. 7.3's usually get better mileage than the Ford V10s and are usually fairily reliable. And as far as Dodge V10 vs Ford V10 I would take the dodge hands down.I have had 7.3psd, 460 and the v10 and by far the v10 has been the best and least to maintain. I tow 12,500 lbs give or take , i can tell you that the 7.3 psd got about the same mileage as the v10, the 460 is a different monster, it doesnt have anywheres the power as either and LOVES the gas.
I get 8.5 mph most of the time towing , unloaded and going driving around town 11.5-12.5 and on the highway ive done as good as 15.5.
I do want to explain the need for lower gears if your going to tow. my v10 has 4.30s in it and it tows good, before the gear change it had 3.55s and the mileage was worse all the way around, not to mention when you had a trailer on the back.
I simply got rid of the diesel because of cost, the oil, and filters were 100. bill every time i did it, yes you can buy cheeper ones i know, diesel is more expensive at the pump and you pay more for the diesel engine , and the STINK. Sure the mileage was a little different but not that much to make me rave about it like every one else.
Never had a dodge v10 but everyone i have talked to loves them, either way i dont think you will get hurt.
Theres one thing for sure it will never get the same mileage as a honda civic :wow:
Definitely agree, 3/4 ton GM's do get decent mileage. And what is nice is you can get the 6.0L in a 1/2 ton..i had a dodge v-10 back in the day. towed whatever i put behind it, but liked the gas. use a gmc with the 6.0 now. also tows whatever i put behind it, but gets better mileage than the dodge. went to south dakota over the summer, and pulled 18 mpg out of one tank of gas. averaged about 16 overall. this was sans trailer though. mileage with a trailer is in the 12-13 range
This is what im in the market for. just depends on what i can find in my price range this summer, would prefer a 7.3. but i keep hearing that the v10 has actually gained reputation for being decently reliable. a huge ass excursion getting 10mpg does NOT bother me. I drive something thats half of the size that gets 12mpg.I tow my XJ and boat with a V-10 Excursion. It pulls well, not as well as the 1 ton dually we had, but good enough to not worry about making it up the next hill, or passing some schmuck doing 45. We ditched the dually because we need to haul people AND stuff. The Excursion room enough for 8 adults and all their crap, its very comfortable on long drives, and gets 11.8 MPG loaded to the gills with people, crap and towing the boat Or 11.8 MPG when its just me in it, going to work on monday morning.
