hard to do? how does it drive?

from tear down to today was a few months. It wasn't hard just time consuming. As for the ride, it's smooth. Like I said I still need to fab up the rear shock hoop and I plan on running the shocks over the axle like / \ rather then the stock in front and behind and the traction bar will help kill the axle wrap. It turns fine on the street but I need to get the CROK frame brace put in and the steering box tapped for the PSC hydro assist kit I got. Other than that, I have to get the new speedo gear for it and she'll be all set. Though I have a trailer to get it to the 'Con and back (only an hour and a half drive there)

Here we go again....... :)

So, you ask what do we think? I can only speak for myself.

Too tall and too wide. I'm not into BIG, I'm into working well. Get the alloy shafts and CTM's in the front, get the body armor on it, and some bumpers, and the cage, and the steering frame support, and the hydro assist, and the rear traction bar, dump the 4" blocks, add a winch, and some on board air, and then show some pics of it on the trail.

Hey, you worked hard on it, and you should be proud, but you have a long way to go. Maybe instead of saying it's 99% done, you should say you've finsihed the first phase of the build up. :D

well then.........I am into big and wide and its really not that big. I can drive it in my average height garage. And it doesn't sit any taller than my F250 with a 2.5" leveling kit.

The bumpers will wait for more $$ and are low on the priority list. As you said alloys and CTM's are next. I have the cage, frame support, hydro assist and traction bar ready to go. But those are easy the major fab work is over. The blocks are temporary but we all know how temporary things become perm. Screw the onboard air I have a ReadyAir tank for that. And you are right these are never done. Before long it may look like Ashman's who knows.

As for trail pics.....well those will have to wait til I can get time off work to wheel. Being a cop and just having two of my partners shot two weeks ago in Harrah's Casino here in Tahoe put my shift and minimum staffing. Time off will be not be for a while.

Oh gawd, I hope not. :D

Sorry about your partners, hope they're going to be OK.

Ok maybe not that bad.....J/K but you get my drift.

As for my partners, they will be ok one had surgery to remove a round that entered his hip and lodged in his back and he also took a round to the left wrist breaking a bone in his arm that they had to plate and reset. My other partner took a round to the stomach that his vest stopped. They will need time to heal both physically and mentally. As for the SOB that did it, if you hadn't heard the story, he was DRT (dead right there) when my partners returned fire. Thank you for your thoughts.

Geoff,

Nice rig!

I heard about that shooting. The guy's name was really "Harvey Ex"? One cop to another - it's good to see that Mr. Ex won't be mooching off the public for the rest of his life.

Glad to hear your boys are gonna pull through their injuries. Hopefully the incident didn't traumatize them to the point that they leave the job. I've been there myself but fortunately, didn't get physically hurt. Be sure to call them frequently even if it's just to b.s. - it helps knowing your brothers are behind you and support you. Encourage them to take time after their hospital stay. I was cleared by the grand jury 4 days after my shooting and coulda went right back to work, but went ahead and took 2 weeks. I'm glad I did.

Stay safe.
Troy

Learn from my mistake.
Move them up on the list.
You have a nice, reasonably straight, body.
Took mine out in the rocks a couple times without bumpers.
Ended up ruining the rear quarter work I had done and took out the right front fender/header panel.
Both would be fine if I'd had the bumpers done.

I can still park it in my garage but it is wide. I am running 15x10 pro-comp steel wheels with a 2.75" backspacing. I knew it was going to be taller so I wanted the width for stability. But its not as tall as I thought it was going to be. I was worried I wouldn't get it out of the garage but she drove right out.

Thanks for the positive words Troy.
Yeah, his name really was Harvey Ex. There is a lot to it and the investigation will be done this week, there was a delay a week into it for whatever reason, and they should be cleared then. Obviously my partener who had the surgery will be out a while where as my other partner could be back in time for the New Years crap that goes on every year up here in Tahoe. I'm trying to get him to take more time off but he says he needs to get back to work. I'm afraid if he doesn't he'll never come back. Thanks again for you support.

Yeah that's a good idea.

what will you do about the blocks? they ruin the credibility of what would be a completely badass xj if they wherent there

I guess by "average height" you mean 8 ft door.. just barely making it..
My heep with 34's and 4.5" of lift right around 6 1/2 ft... so with tires and lift your looking at 12" more up front and 13.75" in the rear..
I will agree.. that thing is tooo tall.. trim the fenders, lose the spacers (at least)...
I will also guess that thing is hard pressed to get on that trailer.. 14.5" tires and that back spacing.. has got to be WIDE...

Are your F-250 axles 8 lug? They should be. If they are, just use some H2 wheels. H2's are 17 x 9 with almost 6" of backspacing, they will fit over the bigger (and better) brakes, the increased B/S will suck wheels in more, and they are CHEAP!
I picked up 5 of them on Ebay for $100.

I wanted the width, I had to search far and wide to find that backspacing. I wanted 2.5" which is what I had before. I had a 59' CJ5 stretched to 107" with a 4 link rear etc. and ran 42x15x15 TSL's on 15x10 steelies with a 2.5"BS. I settled for 2.75" for this one.

The axles are 8 lug but I just had to grind a little on the caliper to get them to fit. I don't want to run a 17" wheel, I like the 15's. Thanks for the info though.

I hate to burst your bubble but I just measured and my garage door is 6'11" from concret to the molding across the top. And I measured the jeep and it sits 6' 10.5" from the ground to the top of the rack. It's far from being too tall. If you all don't believe me then I will post pics of it to prove it. It looks tall because there is no front bumper on it and the front end is all open. Its not tall believe me.
As far as my trailer goes it has an 83" deck. The front is wider than the rear but measures 84" so that will fit fine. It is actually 5" narrower than my old CJ which was 89" wide and it fit on the trailer as well. Thanks for the concern though.
