Another Cabin now available....

Lady luck was terrible to me last weekend. I blew out the rear ring & pinion and probably took out the bearings as well. It truly saddens me to say that I won't be in Moab this year (%$#%@&%!!).

My mechanic was able to squeeze me into his busy schedule to confirm my worst fears. He's booked up all this week, and the cost of regearing along with the time factor will not allow me to attend. Even if he could have gotten them installed in time, I'd worry about breaking in new gears on a 3,000 mile round trip. I don't feel that lucky....

The lucky one will be the person on the waiting list for a cabin. I called Slickrock CG and cancelled my stay. Anyone on the waiting list may want to check with Slickrock CG to snag my cabin :(

I was looking forward to seeing old friends from my Moab trip in 2001, and was hoping to meet many more. Hey, there's always next year.....

WHAT?????!!!!!! Come on, Ivan........ suck it up!

How'd you manage to blow out the r&p?

Ivan, that sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing you again. Hope all goes well and we'll see you next year. Maybe I will be able to make it out to Cali sometime for a trail run.

There will be plenty of Cherokees to go around. I'll let you ride with me all week, heck I'll even let you drive! Why let a good vacation go to waste and miss out on all of the festivities?
You've got to come regardless.
I've got a friend that can't make it with his XJ.
He's flying in on Sunday, staying the whole week, and he's driving two of the runs.
Take up on the offer that Handlebars has put out there for you.
Although I don't know you, I'd hate to see you, or anybody, miss this event.
Dan.

Guys...

Thanks for the kind offers for ride alongs and the opportunity to drive as well..... You have no idea what that outreach of support means to me. The generousity of the folks here at NAXJA is a testament to what this group is made of :D

I wish I could still make it, but still getting there would be difficult. There's only one other car in the family, and my wife needs it to get to work. Cost of booking a plane ticket on this short notice would nearly approach the cost of buying a cheap commuter plane, and I'd still have to learn how to fly ;)

I should have listened to my mechanic the first time around when he said the gears "didn't set up" as well as he would have hoped they would, and that I should send them back. At the time, I was in too much of a hurry to make another event, that I took my chances with the questionable gears. I lost that one, and I'm now paying the price by not being able to attend Moab. This time around, I'm going to let him keep the XJ until he's satisfied with the outcome of the gear install.

Like I mentioned before, I'm keeping a positive outlook on all this, and I'm greatful that the gears didn't go out on me while traveling to and from Moab..... though I wish they would have lasted until I got back at least....oh well.

Have fun everyone.... heck, I may even be the winner of the Give Away XJ!

See you next year....

NO, NO, NO.

Just pick up a set of gears (cheap, it's all good :)), pull the ring gear in back, and drive it out to Moab on the front. Then you can make Crash set them up in the campground. Or at least have him train you. :D

It would only cost you an extra couple of bills and you have your whole life to pay it off.

For everything else in life there's MC.

I hate to see this many people having to drop at the last minute.

Not to put any extra pressure on..but if there's any way you can make it down south by Tuesday (Greyhound?) I've got an extra seat heading out there, I'll be leaving from Downtown L.A...

Ivan, there has got to be a butt load of people coming from CA and some from OR or WA that can pick you up. My XJ is staying home, I'm flying down and riding with TRNDRVR (as stated). Catch a ride, bring your tent and whatever else you need. Someone will put you up in a site. You'd be like the Slickrock vagrant :D
