All Things Guns

Well the .30-12tw Shilen showed up today, now to patiently wait for the reamer and headspace gauge from PTG. This baby is gonna be sweet.

Reamer showed up today. We're getting close, action is done except for the bolt stop and the stock needs refinished and I need to make a recoil lug and get the bottom metal installed. Then I think I'm done, no wait I want to build a custom scope base too. Good thing I've got 10mo. to do this. :D

Would you consider chambering a rifle for another WI guy? I'm planning to order a barrel and my old gunsmith mved to OK and took a job with surgeon rifles..
I want to have a barrel installed without the nut on a savage target action.

Built 200rds of 9mm last night with Winchester 115gr FMJs. Much cleaner operation than the cast slugs I made for the .40, but it's also more expensive. Need to get a mold for 9mm in a 100gr range so I can use the same cast boolits for .380 of I ever get to reloading that, but I just don't do a lot of shooting with that thing.

Well Josh I picked up a set of those JP springs. Wow that made a huge difference! Still need to go get a tap to do the set screw mod but just the polish and springs made a huge difference. Also picked up a Magpul MOE+ grip, much nicer as well.

Which set did you go with, 3.5 or 4.5# springs?

The set screw is so worth it. I was lucky enough that my Spike's receiver was tapped through and didn't have to worry about that. Now that I know what good it does, I wouldn't hesitate to tap one through for this mod.

Any more ARs I build with combat style triggers are going to get this mod. My hunting AR will get a 2-stage trigger, so I won't be doing this, though it would still work very, very will in that application.

I haven't gotten the chance to get out to the range to see if the 4.5# springs produce any light primer strikes. I've got WPA rounds and don't know if they're a round that commonly has problems or not.

If I get light strikes I'll be cutting the hammer down. Not that it's that big of a deal, but I'd just prefer that I don't have to.

I had a dyslexic moment when I installed the hammer spring and put it on backwards. Lol. Had the llight primer strikes but now that I have flipped it around correctly I should not have any issues. I was using the WPA ammo as well.

Last night I tore apart my Mossberg 500 for cleaning. My dad bought it somewhere around 20 years ago and I'm pretty sure the most he ever did was barrel maintenance. So I took the action all apart and it was filthy! So I scrubbed up and oiled all the parts and started to inspect the trigger mech. Yeah...that thing was ridiculously dirty as well.

So I tore it apart, cleaned it all up and started going back together when I realized I didn't know how to get this one spring back on. I started doing youtube searches on my phone and quickly came to realize that my screen isn't large enough to get the details I wanted out of this video. I was about to think I was taking it to a smith to get it back together which would have really pissed me off over one spring.

My buddy who was with me asked if we had any more 500s laying around. YEP!! Good thinking on his part. I managed to yank the trigger out of Meganne's dad's 500 and could see everything well enough to get it back together.

Sarah has three pumpkins she is using for decoration. When they are finished, I am going to dispose of them with tannerite.

loaded and discharged 4 ballistic rounds last night via Pizza Hut and Miller Lite....one of them was damn near a tracer round.......use your imagination.

Well just as I thought I have been bit by the black rifle bug and am already planning my next build. Won't be buying parts until after the holidays and will be working on my .308 at the same time so it will be over some time but thinking this next one may have to be an SBR so I will have plenty of time to complete it. Wanting to do billet receivers this time around.

I stopped into the LGS the other day to grab some snap rings for my ejection port cover pin and was doing a little browsing. I'm don't think I want to spend the money on billet receivers, but I'm considering the smooth style without a forward assist and ejection port cover.

I haven't made up my mind.

I have found some that are fairly reasonable for being billet. I am really liking the seekins lowers but I am will likely do a matched set this time and their prices are a little high for me. I have thought about having the cerakoted so that may not be an issue. I would like the forward assist and ejection port cover just. Though I know the need for them is not likely for me but they seem to hold their value better than those without.

I have known Glen Seekins for years and we have spent a bunch of time doing stuff, last visit home we spent a bunch of time at his home shop talking build ups and such. He puts a lot of great features in his stuff in my opinion.

I know his billet lowers looks awesome to say the least. I have not had the opportunity to check one out in person. In fact the only billet receiver I have seen in person was a stripped mega lower. I have time before I will start this next build and will be doing my research in that time.

This has been getting a little buzz over on arf.com

http://tacfirecon.com/

It's essentially a bumpfire trigger as opposed to a bumpfire stock. Reported pricing of $500... I'm sure it won't stick around. I'm still surprised the SlideFire stock has stuck around. But this thing is deluxe!!
