All Things Guns

That is BADASS!! Want to shoot. Want to shoot.:D
Gas block is Aluminium. If you're interested feel free to PM me with an offer. Looks like they go for $30 and up.
Well, I really don't know how much real world effect takes place, but aluminum heats up differently than steel and people have made mention about having issues. Idk about all that, but that's why I bought the block I'm currently running.

I'll let you know if I change my mind and wanna give it a whirl.

Managed to get to the bench today and work on some gun stuff.

While I was at the bench and things were going well, I grabbed Meganne's youngest brother's Savage Axis .308 and tinkered with it a little. He's been having issues sighting it in, so I loc-tite'd all the scope ring bolts and action screws. While the action screws were out I did a little trigger work to reduce the pull weight. Lastly, I laser bore-sighted it in. Hopefully, all things considered, he finds it to be shooting better.

Is it bedded? That has helped my Savages out huge. Also if the action screw are too tight you can really screw up accuracy on one. I have many Savages and all of them are great guns.

It's no thing man. I had talked with them about it and said they have not had any issues with these gas blocks.

No, it's not bedded. It's just the base model Axis. Everything about this gun screams entry level. The action screws didn't snap when I backed them out, just came undone without any real effort. I tightened them up pretty good, hopefully not too tight. If it doesn't start lining up, I'll pull them out and reinstall not as tight. Pretty sure his accuracy issues were the scope rings coming loose (since they were factory installed and kept backing out from firing) and shooter error. With a wobbly scope, it's hard to blame the shooter though. We'll get it taken care of eventually.

Alright. I'll let you know if I want it. Provided you still have it when it comes down to it.

And you should do the trigger work to your AR that I've described earlier. WOW! You might just JIYP. It's gonna be really hard to beat for the <$15 it costs.

Oh man I am planning to, sounds like it makes a pretty big difference. Did you pollish or do anything to the disconnector or just the trigger itself?

Just the trigger. I think I should go back and polish the sear engagement on the hammer side, but now there's such a small amount of engagement, I don't know if the effort will actually garnish any improvement.

I've never seen anything on polishing the disconnector. It only matters after you've fired, so I wouldn't worry about it anyway.

One of the local training ranges posted about needing people to pick up brass, in return you get a free class. I did and will probably take defensive handgun 1, which is a two day class that is normally $300. I only cleaned up brass for two hours, that is time well used. I did hear I will need around 1,000 rounds for it. Might take a bit to get that.

If you still had that P22, it would have made it a lot easier on the wallet and wrist.

But way to bargain for the class. That's a helluvan opportunity.

Well I polished the trigger. Used 400 grit for the most of it then polished it up with a good metal polish. Feels a ton better but still need to do the set screw. Thanks for the info on that Josh.

Also my charging handle and lo profile gas block should have arrived at the shop today. My hand guard shows delivery date for Monday here at the house. Will be heading down the shop my first day next week which is Weds to have him through my hand guard on since I don't have the upper vice block. So looks like it will be finished Weds besides a few small things I would like to add/change in the future. I did also pick up Magpul MOE stock for it as I really did not like the feel of the cheap plastic take off I had on it. Will post pics when it's finished.

Just want to first apologize for the multiposts, would not let me edit my last.

My handguard showed up today ahead of schedule so I ran down to the shop. The order of charging handles he has is still on a delay but should be there by next week sometime so that is the only thing I do not have. So the rifle is 99% done and man I can tell you I am freaking stoked to take this thing out. If I may say so this thing has come out sweet.

DTI stripped lower
CMMG LPK (with polished trigger)
Core 15 takeoff buffer tube

Troy Industries low profile gas block
Doublestar charging handle(if I remember correctly)

Dude, that thing turned out sweet! And it's no problems on the trigger stuff. I was super glad to find that info myself. I want more people I know to build ARs so I can show them the cool stuff other people have shared with me. Pay it forward!!
Apparently the Burris scope I bought is a 1" tube and the primary arms scope I have already mounted is 30mm.

So I got another PEPR mount in 1".
Those PEPR mounts are sweet, but a bit 'spensive for me. I've looked at other manufacturers of the same style and wonder if the cost savings is worth it in quality or not. You have any experience with other brands? First-hand or otherwise?

I don't have first hand experience, but a lot of the reviews say that the extra coin is worth it. I'm very impressed with mine. It's solid, well built and designed very well. If I had to pick between a $40 knockoff and $70 for the real thing, I would spend the money.

I bought a Burris Fullfield II in 3.5-10x50 on camo tuesday from midway for half price, so I'm interested to see what kind of groups I can put down with traditional glass. My Primary Arms 1-4x has a 3 moa dot, so my previous groups had a lot to do with that.

Thanks man, I am very please with the way it turned out. Ready to take it out when my charging handle arrives. I will most certainly keep info going, actually told a guy about it the other day.

Good to know. I had found one for $43 that mounts the 30mm but has 1" inserts. Thought that was a nice perk. 4.5 Stars from Amazon, but I know there are others out there that I don't need to look at reviews. Even the Nikon M-223 mount looks decent.

Yeah, 3MOA dots make it pretty hard to focus for tight groups. You probably group better with your flip ups.

Awesome! CH should be in today right? Video this evening? :D

Haha I'm not sure, I just told him I would check back Weds. I work nights 12 hour shifts so doesn't leave much time for anything besides sleep and work, the almost 2 hour round trip doesn't help much much either. Planning to go out this coming Saturday. Will try to remember to get video.

Yeah, buddy!! Looks like everything runs pretty smooth! Do you feel like you've made a baby? :D

There's a lot of satisfaction in building.

Haha! There definitely is a lot of satisfaction when it all comes together and works like it should. I'm already thinking about my next build but that one won't be for a while and probably will take a little longer to build too. I want to get my .308 built before I do another for myself though.
