All Things Guns

Rimfire Madness at Riley CC is done for the season. My times were slower on some stages then before, but I am almost certain i used half the ammo i have used previously.

Well a Timney would probably be my choice, bedded for sure with probably a custom aluminum block, yes 20MOA base also from Seekins Precision. There is pretty much everything out there, whitetail, mule deer, elk, moose, bear, coyote, cougar, wolf, raccoon, turkey, pheasant, chucker, dove, partridge, grouse, I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Right now steelhead season is kicking in too, and then don't forget salmon, catfish, trout, bass, crappie, bluegill, etc.
Terrain is everything depending on what part, where they live it's 40min to 5000ft from 800ft that the town we are from is. But lots of rolling hills that you all would call mountains around here.
Sounds like an outdoorsman's utopia.

And the rifle sounds like it's gonna be a quarter-mile tack driver and a 3/4 mile killer! I dig it.

It had better be nice for the price of those things. The free float tube I'm planning on using with my hunting build is wicked cheap by comparison. I'm looking at a M1S tube. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/22...uard-fluted-ar-15-rifle-length-aluminum-black

For rail options, I should re-consider. I don't prefer to use weaver mounted bipods, so I had picked out a swivel stud for that tube. If I can find a smooth, round tube with one rail on top, that would be ideal. I really, really don't want to have a weaver mount bipod.

I actually picked up the guard and barrel nut for $89. Has options to mount rails at 8 positions at 45 degree angles anywhere up and down the rail. After talking to a buddy I decided I wanted something I could mount rails on incase things changed in the future. You can add the rails at a later time and they do offer sling swivel studs that thread in. The 15" rail section is like $23 and thr swivel stud is around $7

After I looked on ATI's website for prices, I went over to Amazon and saw much better prices. It's actually quite a bit more enticing from that standpoint. I'm still not sure that I want that particular style of rail though. Idk. I've got time to worry about it, I don't even have the lower for that build. And being able to add a swivel stud is a good selling point...

We'll see.

Not sure what they are going for on Amazon but I ordered mine through opticsplanet.com, like I said it was $89 with free shipping (http://www.opticsplanet.com/ati-ar-15-8-sided-15in-free-float-forend-slotted-barrel-nut.html). I thought it was a pretty good deal and was drastically cheaper than any other guard that length with the same options. I was originally looking at a 12" dpms free float for $59. Was very similar to the one you are looking at. I was kind of unsure about the solid tube as I was afraid it would hold heat and not let the barrel cool sufficiently. Maybe I was over thinking it though.

On another note, should have my rifle sold tomorrow so should be able to pick up the rest of the parts to finish my build. Getting stoked!

Two buddies and I went up north last weekend with a bunch of guns. I fell in love with a 9mm 4.5" barreled ar and already have a barrel and the magazine setup ordered. He is modifying uzi mags since they are $9 and worked great. All together we shot about 1000 9mm and 1000 .223. Then I found a bottle of jameson and drank myself stupid.

96'dirtbikes, shorts, and blackberry patches make for bloody itchy legs' 2door

Is that railed gas block steel or aluminum? I might be interested in it.

2.5" chamber, 4" barrel, open carry.
If by open you mean on the hip...

Well, doing a little research doesn't seem to yield much in the 4" bbl variety. Unless you want a Fobus holster with an open bottom.

Personally, I would prefer good leather over anything polymer or nylon. Unless your open carry would be for hunting... If it were for hunting, I would recommend a nylon rig.

If you're talking about a shoulder rig, go to your closest store and try on different brands to see which is most comfortable for you. After comfort you'll have leather and nylon to choose from.

I know I didn't really narrow it down much for you, but hopefully it's food for thought at the very least.

Managed to get to the bench today and work on some gun stuff.

When I originally assembled my AR upper, I had incorrectly installed the ejection port cover pin. I'll tell you, it's a pain to change that thing after the upper is fully assembled. I managed to get the clip out without losing it, swapped my stuff around and lost the clip when I snapped it around the pin and didn't hit the groove. Bummer.

I also managed to get the set screw into my lower receiver for the trigger mod. I would guess that I took out about 75% of the take-up. It. Feels. AWESOME! Between the lack of take-up, the good polishing and the JP 4.5# springs, I'm smitten!

While I was at the bench and things were going well, I grabbed Meganne's youngest brother's Savage Axis .308 and tinkered with it a little. He's been having issues sighting it in, so I loc-tite'd all the scope ring bolts and action screws. While the action screws were out I did a little trigger work to reduce the pull weight. Lastly, I laser bore-sighted it in. Hopefully, all things considered, he finds it to be shooting better.
