got started on my interior this week, not a whole lot done, but what I did do was a bit time consuming. All of the parts in the pictures were at one time either tan carpet, or tan plastic...and the headliner was a just the backing peice.
First, I cleaned the tan plastics really good with a degreaser, then I scuffed them up good with a scuff pad. I hit them with Naptha afterwords to clean the scuff-dust off, and to open the pores in the plastic up a little bit. Then I gave 'em two good coats of rattle-can for plastics.
The headliner has a couple little cracks, and a few layers of glue on it. So, I cleaned it up real good, scuffed it up as well, repaired a the few imperfections in it, and glued my new headliner to it. The material I got at a local fabric store, and it was on clearance. The color is much darker than it looks in the photos, but it had the 3/16 foam backing attached and everything. It was easy to work with, and frankly, a nutless monkey could have done it.
The peice that covers the back part of the cab was originally tan carpet, and it has seen better days. I removed it and headlined that as well. It turned out real nice.
sorry for the un-interesting addition to my build thread, but I see it to be an important step. Keep in mind this is modified restoration, not a weekend warrior trail rig. I know headliner on that backing plate would be a terrible idea if I planned on storing anything back there, considing at the trail mud get everywhere it would end up on that headlined peice as well. anyway, let me know what you think.
