5.9 V-8 Magnum swap

Not sure if I mentioned it, but I did cut out some of the hood framing for clearance. I am out of town, but Sunday, I will take a bunch of photos of stuff for those looking to do this swap. My motor height has the oil pan about 1/2 inch above my trackbar brace. Again will take some more pics. Anyone want any specific pics?

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see someone doing a non-gm swap. Props man. Ill be watching this closely and probably borrowing some of your details whenever I get around to doing a swap. I like the banjo bolt PS fittings, where did you pick those up?

Upper Radiator Hose:
Grand Cherokee hose was actually about an inch or two too short I could have forced it, but it flattened out the hose. Ended up cutting the hoses and using the grand hose and an elbow on the original 4.0 hose.

Lower Hose:

First, I bought the griffin aluminum radiator with inlets/outlets that were opposite the original 4.0, but they matched inlet/outlet of the magnum radiator. I recommend this or a radiator with the inlet outlet both on the passenger side (would have been a little cheaper). If you use the one with both on the right, you will have to figure out upper hose. For the lower hose I picked one at the auto parts store just by looks. Turns out it is for a 2001-2005 Chevy Truck. I did trim both ends, but fit was more than perfect.

You can see the bend matches the lines of the batter tray and then turns right into the radiator. I did take the battery and tray out to put it on. Probably could have done it without, but would have been a fight.

Trimming of the hood frame. You can see the sharpie marks where I will trim a little more. Like I said I used playdoh to check for clearance. Just put the lump of playdoh on whatever and wherever you want to check and close the hood.

Oil pan clearance:

I based my motor placement on the fact I wanted to keep my track bar brace. And if I didn't have to modify the brace that much better. Based on the mounts I used, the brace, and final angle of the motor, I think my placement was perfect. I would have liked to have the motor another inch or two back. With my adjustable motor mounts this is possible and may do it if I ever get a ZJ 46re Transmission and change out to ZJ manifolds.

What is difference in oil pan height vs the 4.0. I'm pretty tight underneath and curious if the swap sits closer to axle and steering or not.

I didn't check the with the 4.0, but going by "what I think I saw and remember", the 4.0 was probably 2 inches higher, so the engine is definitely closer to the steering and axle than before. I figured that nothing hit my trackball brace before, so I should be safe enough to lower the motor to right above it.

Right on. Im not super roomy with the 3 link and 60 up front. Want to do the magnum swap but really wondering what my room will be like. Thanks for the info.

Rear driveshaft wasn't going to work due to moving driveline forward 2 inches. So new driveshaft just arrived and is installed. I already adjusted the bands in the trans and changed the filter, but noticed the gasket leaking. It was a reusable one, so I reused it and it leaked. No telling how old it was. So got a new one and changed it out. Started working the exhaust, but did the entire Y pipe and I screwed something up it shifted or something so had to cut it off and am in the middle of redoing it. I expect I will be full up and driving by this weekend. Still have to finish cutting off the LCA mounts.

Shaker hood scoop FTW!

More issues. I suspected some engine noise and on top of that new I crushed the oil pan a little. Now that the down pipe is down. Hooked up the cat and muffler and fired it up for a second. Sure enough now I can really hear it tapping the oil pan. Looks like I need to drop the pan. Still pushing through.
