5.3L Vortec V8 Conversion

John,
I still have my 97 pump assy, I'll measure the resistance at full and empty for ya.

Fatwrecks question was regarding the vacuum booster connection. My truck intake has a nipple on the back side.

I've had the motor running for quite a while getting the air out of the cooling system, pretty sure I've got 97.5% of it out....maybe even 98%! !;)

Not sure why buy my DBW throttle decided to stop working...I think I got overly excited and knocked a wire or 2 loose. No worries, I'll get 'er fixered up.

Frank,

Nice work man!

I have been sourcing a LSx motor for a little while now but havent done much research on the task, this thread is going to come in handy.

Thanks Frank. I was looking at an FSM for a '00 (mine is '98, its was as close as I could get) and it says 270/20 Ohms. I am going to stop by a friends shop and see if I can find it in All Data. I am curious what your's reads though. I know the older XJ's were 90/0 Ohms. Summit sells gauges for a 240/33 Ohms range -if that's what they are.

Don't forget I would really like the specs on your fuel pump adapter/ring thingy.

John

The gauge I found at Summit is 240 Empty/33 Full. The Jeep sender is 270 Empty/20 Full.

What happens when you hook this gauge to this sender? Not read acurrate? Not read at all?

Well if you DID wire it up, it would simply be inaccurate. The sender would never say the tank was completely full or completely empty. I mean it would kind of work, but not really.

How can you lessen the resistance of the Jeep sender? It woul be easy to bring the Jeep sender resistance up, but how to bring it down?

Where's the drooling smiley? I can't wait to get the fundage to start mine. I will probably go with a LQ4 block with an LSx intake.

Transfercase pulled, clocking ring cleaned, reinstalled...and no more drip! wOOT!

Lessons learned today:

Chevy dealers are insanely expensive! $35 for a VSS connector with about 10" of wire. NAPA FTW! $20
I should have snipped a connector from a donor rig last time I went to the JY.

#2
700 Watt soldering irons get fookin' hot! Do not allow the tip to touch thigh....OUCH!!

#3
Unplugging your DBW cable with the engine running causes the engine to shut down...this is a good thing. Plugging it back in and restarting the engine resets the DBW system so that your peddle actually operates the throttle.....even better!!

#4
Cheap serpentine belts squeal.........a lot. Replaced it.

I bought mine on Amazon believe it or not. I think it was $14 shipped.

I'm thinking I may give the Tahoe gauges another look-see. I really hate letting something like a gauge cluster kick my arse.

Don't do it...please. :)

I gave up on the Jeep cluster. A whole set of AutoMeter's are waiting on my porch for me to get home. Speedo, Tach, H2O, Oil P, Volt and Fuel along with green, red, amber and blue indicator lights. Hated to do it, especially with all the time and effort I have invested into the Jeep cluster.
