3/4 Ton ?

Ive seen some trucks (3/4 Ton) that dont have the "hub" I guess you call it on the rear axle where the wheel's center cap covers, why is that? and I think i saw somewhere on pirate4x4 a front Dana 60 with what looked ot be the same "hub". What's the deal?

the only rear 3/4 ton axle that i know of that wouldnt have the "hub" is a semi floating gm 14 bolt

They are semi floating instead of the full floating rear ends that have a hub.
Semi floating works like your Jeeps axle, where there is a bearing that transfers weight of the Jeep onto the axle shaft itself. The advantage to full floating it that you can pull out a broken shaft and still drive w/ no axle shaft.
