Here are two previous threads that might help us plan this year. Please input the following:

Please do as much research as possible. We would want minimal conflict with other events. Also post links, maps, directions, and camping conditions would be appreciated.

We are only planning on having 4 quarterly Sierra Chapter Event/Runs. One already is the upcoming Rubicon run and one other is the Swamp Lake OHV run. So we are needing ideas for the last two, and figure out a date for the Swamp Lake run.

The more suggestions and volunteers we have will make this scheduling easier. All other informal runs will be scheduled by you the members and they will be responsible for coordinating them.

After about a two weeks we'll decide on what we are doing this year.

I'm looking forward to all the sugestions!

chuck, i believe goatman has swamp scheduled for july 30th-aug 1st......and the rubicon,barrett,fordyce run aug 14th -- 22nd. i think a week-end [2-nite]coyote/red lake trip might be nice also. apr or may?? what's the weather like there in those months? are they even open? also, i'll be at dinkey again this year in early june and will be running bald mtn again and other trails that will be open. :woohoo:

Jes had asked me if I was interested in hosting another Lost Coast run for those that have not attended in the past, or those that are interested in going again. Traditionaly (last 2 years now), I've led the run on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. This made for some nice camping for folks to check out the area on a 3 day weekend, then do a run on the Usal Lost Coast trail.

It's a mild trail, great for families and kids encouraged. Very scenic run thorough the redwoods, ending up at Usal Beach. The run begins in Garberville, and ends up just north of Fort Brag. Takes about 4 hours to run at a mild pace.

Any interest in this again this year?

Or is the club wanting some more tame runs? or a snow run or what. Personally I prefer the more difficult trails but thats me

Post whatever trail you want to run or maybe willing to host, later after the sugestions are submitted we'll decide which ones will be actual SC events. Otherwise, if your sugestion doesn't make it, you can host your own run like always.

I will volunteer to plan and organize a late Fordyce run around sept if the club decides thats what they want to do.

Yeah, I know, you see this way I look like a good little member and have volunteered for something Its not like I am going to volunteer for a meet n greet at prairie city or something Seriously though just giving the SC more options, if they want to do fordyce twice. Its still one of my favorite trails anyway.

I'd be interested in the Lost Coast on Memorial Day. As far as regular trails go, now that my truck is coming together, I'd like to try some harder trails to see what I can do. The mild runs aren't bad, though. I'd like to get up to the snow some more, too.
I really don't know any of the trails, so I don't think I'm any help in organizing anything yet.

I don't see anything wrong by going to the same place twice this year. There are always people who might not be able to make it to one event, but will be able to make it to another.

Well lets let this run until Friday the 23rd. Then after that we can vote on what we want to run. All sugestions are appreciated, if I missed something on this short list, please post again.

Another day trip sounds good to me to, I would like to stay maybe one night.

Last year things didn't work out well, my son got sick and had to drive up to Milpitas and then back home. That was one long day. Fortunately I had only taken out my Rusty's Swaybar Dissconnects.

The web site mentions camping accomadations, http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=1179 , anyone stayed there. I know last year part of the group just stayed out on the trail. The Family campground sounds a little more inviting.

the camp site are really good. just need to bring a couple of palletes or fire wood for the fire pits. they have some of the cleanest bathrooms that i've ever seen.

Well, since I live somewhat close and go there quite often, I will offer to organize a Hollister Hills run either in late February or early March. How does the weekend of Feb 28 and March 1st sound. Overnites are welcome and I will see about reserving the campsites once I know how many want to stay overnite. The main campground near the obstacle course stays pretty busy and crowded most times. The good quiet sites are in the Sycamore camp area, but get filled up quickly on busy weekends. This is where most members stayed last year. Both campsites have clean bathrooms and running water.

Thanks Brian, the date looks perfect. I'll make up a poll on Monday and we will see what happens. Who knows, all the runs sound good so far, I'm thinking we might be able to make them all happen.

Since Sierra Chapter is doing Rubicon the middle of Aug, and Swamp is a 3 day trip, maybe it would be easiest on people to have it a month before Rubicon rather than 2 weeks before. That would put it on July 16-18. I normally prefer Sierra trips as late as possible, within reason, because there are fewer bugs, but it's different each year so there's no way to know what to expect.

We alternate each year, either spending three days on Swamp (two nights camping at Grouse Lake), or spending one night (Fri) and running Bald Mtn on Sunday. This year is the one night on the trail/run Bald Mtn year. An alternative to running Swamp on Fri/Sat and Bald on Sun, if it would help more people go, would be to run Bald Mtn on Friday, then Swamp on Sat and Sun. That way those who can't take Friday off can still run Swamp with everyone. What do you all think?

The last two years we have not had a shortage of participants for this run so I say stick with the classic schedual. Also, July 16-18 sounds good to me.
