Sheared a 3/8 -1/2 adapter in high school trying to torque double cap studs on a motorhome.
then I wised up. Steel has its limits.

I've seen a 3/8 breaker bar out there somewhere.
IMO get the adapter and use it in those times of need. Get the 3/8 breaker bar for the task at hand... Or a short piece of pipe.
